WE ARE DECIDING ON A ONE BEDROOM OR A STUDIO AT OLD KEY WEST. WE HAVE A 13 YEAR OLD SON WHO IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY BIG BOY. 180 LBS - SIZE 11 SHOE- WRESTLER ETC. AND HE IS
NOT FOND OF THE IDEA OF SLEEPING ON A SLEEPER SOFA. WE
HAVE NEVER USED THIS OPTION SO I AM WONDERING ARE THEY
THE USUAL 2 INCH THICK MATRESS THAT YOU FEEL ALL THE BARS
DIGGING INTO YOUR BACK? OR ARE THEY A BETTER QUALITY
THAT IS MORE COMPARABLE TO A REAL MATTRESS? WE LIKE THE
IDEA OF THE JACUZZI, BUT WE DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO LISTEN
TO OUR SON COMPLAIN THAT HIS BACK HURT'S BECAUSE OF HIS
UNCOMFORTABLE STEEPER SOFA.
THANX

I don't think they are any more comfortable than any other pull-out sleeper. It is a trade off - washer/dryer/full kitchen/more room or comfy queen beds. We usually alternate between 1 bdrms and studios. It just depends on what is most important to your family. I'm a large guy, and I don't care for the sofa-sleeper. But, I'll use it for the conveniences of a one bedroom.

Our DS loves the living room to sleep in! He doesn't pull out the sleep sofa, but puts the sheets on the sofa itself because it is easier to make the bed in the morning. He just has to fold up his sheets and blankets, and he is done! He also loves haveing the whole living room/ kitchen to himself at night! Your 13 yo is not likely to want to go to bed before you anyway, so I would opt for the more spacious arrangements! We REFUSE to stay in a studio any more. Just can't seem to do without the washer/dryer and whirlpool and room anymore. BTW, be sure to request a 1 bedroom with the extra door into the bathroom. That is a MUST when you have someone staying in the Living room. You can close off the door to the second part of the bathroom, and the master suite remains private.

My son is 19, 6'3", and about 180 pounds. He's says it's fine with the sleeper sofa, sleeps like the dead.

Spent a week sleeping on one last trip, it has a full thickness mattress and was pretty comfy. I'm over 6' and had no problems.

My 13 year old daughter who is 5'6" and weighs 127# slept on it for 10 nights over the last two weeks and found it comfortable. Her only complaint was you have to get the extra pillows out of the closet for it and they don't seem as comfortable as the regular bed pillows.

I've always been comfortable on it. Remind him that he'll also get his own TV if you opt for the 1-bedroom vs. the studio. ;)

on our last trip i took a tip from a friend. We packed an inflatable air mattress (double or queen size) in a small suitcase (the kind with the small battery powered quick pump) and blew it up every night and put it on top of the pull out sofa mattress. It was mch more comfortable for my 12 year old and was a snap to deflate in the morning and put back in the suitcase. We recently went cabin camping and dh and I used in on our cabin mattress. It was much more comfy that the mattress that was in the cabin.
