OKW running "in the negatives" this week

I was hoping to stay longer this week but the front desk who already had to move to me to another resort my first night told me they are "running in the negatives" this week because of damage from the hurricane as damage is discovered. There is no availability at any resort. A few guests at Gurgling Suitcase were lamenting the fact that their points were all put into holding and they had to use or lose them. I miss the old days. I want to stay.

😯

I’ve seen a couple of people get moved from Coronado/ GDT to The Poly and The GF. I wonder if these are all related some how 🤔

I do wonder why the points were put into
holding instead of returned to where they were if this was a DVC not member issue.

How were their points put into holding? Were their stays shortened? Were they moved to less "expensive" rooms? If either of those things happened MS should make an exception as it was not the member's doing.

This really makes no sense.....

In terms of availability, it is fall break in a lot of locations so it's a busy time.

If it was because of the hurricane (and not from a previous reservation that was cancelled), I'm sure a call to MS will resolve the situation. Points in holding and other "account issues" are often the result of front desk CMs trying to do the right thing. Many of them are just not trained in managing DVC accounts. It's not uncommon for MS to straighten things out later.

I think the change out of holding requires some extra work on the account…its not automatic,

As Carol said, a call to MS should have it changed since it is due to the hurricane.

Maybe I misread it. I thought they had points in holding because they cancelled on their own for whatever reason, and they assumed they would be able to use the holding points but now no vacancies. (Not that they had a resie which DVC cancelled on them and DVC put the points in holding.)

That was my experience. I checked out early due to the hurricane and sometime after I got home I checked my account. I had two nights worth of points in holding status. It was a week or two after that before I had the free time to follow up - checked the account before I was going to call and all points were in normal status. Kudos for Member Services for taking care of this without me needing to request it!

This part lost me too. If they are sitting at the resort in the bar (assuming they are current guests), then what points are they talking about that went into holding? Points from their current reservation? Points from some other reservation they had during the hurricane? If they were from a ressie during Ian, just two weeks ago, were they able to make a new ressie already (hence their presence at Gurgling Suitcase)?

Random question- what is Gurgling Suitcase? We have been members for about 3 years now, and I've never heard of that??

"the Gurgling Suitcase Bar has a story behind it as well. During Prohibition, people would come down to Key West to purchase illegal alcohol. They would pack it using their clothes to cushion the bottles so they wouldn't break in their suitcases. Law enforcement officers soon caught on to this practice and when they stopped people, they would pick up the luggage and shake it to see if it "gurgled," indicating that there was liquid inside."

We will be at OKW Dec 16th to 20th in a 1BR near HH, do you foresee us having any issues with our room as well. I dislike moving like that, we have children- so its more of a pain in the butt than anything else.

I think you will be fine. This is still some after effects from the Hurricane to start the month. Would hope things have settled/damage has been repaired by the time you go in two months.
