OKW Room Options at Check-in

:)Hi all,

We love OKW and are fortunate enough to be enjoying a stay next week :banana:!

Most times that we have stayed there, we have usually been offered a variety of choices of rooms and locations at check-in. I don't know if it was just luck or good timing or the right CM, but often we find there are rooms ready (or somewhat ready) and our CM ready to offer us some choices. Since we have experienced that in the past, I haven't made any room requests. I am just wondering if this is a thing of the past or if your experience has been the same in recent stays? I really hate making room requests because I feel like we are pigeon-holing ourselves into something we may not want. I really very much like being able to take a minute at check-in, look at the map and have a few different options--maybe re-visit an old favorite area or try something new in an area that has always intrigued us. Again, just wondering if recent check-ins are generally being offered some options. Thanks for your feedback!
 
I checked in today, and had previously completed the online check-in (with requests). I walked in and was handed our packet and keys...and when I asked what room we had, we were asked "if we were happy with that?" And it was obvious that we had other choices. In the the end we WERE happy with what we were assigned.

I really have never been disapointted in an OKW location, though I personally prefer to avoid bldgs 28 & 29 simply because of the heavily wooded view.

We have usually been offered a choice of rooms at check-in, but there have been a few times that the resort has been fully booked, and the room was pre-assigned with no options.

Now that we've started using online check-in, the only request I make is for ground floor (Mom is 86 and avoids stairs if possible) and have had pre-assigned rooms twice that were fine, and once, the packet had not yet been prepared, so we were offered a choice of rooms that were ready.
 
We used to be offered a few different choices and I liked that. But the last couple times we haven't been offered any choice. Unfortunately, this last April, we got our least favorite, building 40. But it wasn't like it was totally bad (after all it was still OKW at WDW), but kind of noisy from road noise, and not much of a view.

I agree about 40. It is on our short list of buildings we prefer not to have as well. We also don't care for 29 or 38.

As far as OKW, I've been fortunate to always have a great building with good views, I don't make requests at the time of the reservations, I ask at check in if they have something in a particular building. I think they've always obliged me, and been very pleasant about seeing the areas available. Of course I think early check in help with this whole process. I've never had a villa in #40, I guess that's a good thing!
 
I'm curious--can you put room requests in during the online checkin process or do they still have to be phoned in? If you can, is it pretty free-form or do they only have a few options to check? Thanks for all your help!

We always make our requests at the time of making the reservations, although honestly I've forgotten a couple times in my excitement that we got our reservation. In that case I call MS back and add the requests.
 
Another question for you all...just wondering if I should have received something about online check-in or if it's an option for me? We check in next Wed (6 days away) but we haven't seen anything yet. I did see a thing about helpful tips for your upcoming trip, maybe yesterday, but nothing about online check-in.

Thanks again for your help..I do think maybe I should put some requests in soon, but thought maybe I could do that with online check-in (which we haven't seen yet).

I did on-line check in the 1st time about a year ago and since then each time a trip approaches I get an e-mail asking me if I want to do on-line check-in. At this point there is no request area in the on-line check in feature!

I think maybe once you do it, it then becomes an automatic e-mail after that!
 
The last few times we have always been offered choices at check-in, which I personally like hate locking myself into one area...
