We just came back from OKW and stayed in a one bedroom (3538). Its on the second floor in the middle of the resort. Right across from the bus stop (Old Turtle Pond Road) and not too far from a pool.
This was our first trip home and we were very impressed with our accomodations and OKW in general. Thanks to everyone on these boards that I got advice and hints from. Most came in very handy. This room also had a second enterance into the bathroom which helped us a lot because we had three people in the room.
We were very impressed with how clean and new looking everything was. We weren't walking around with a magnifying glass (I'm sure there was a piece of dirt somewhere), but overall very clean.
We were also very impressed with the service at OKW. Everyone there went out of there way for us. One day we requested to see a GV. Within 10 minutes they got a cast member with a big golf cart and took us over to see one. We were in there for a good 10-15 minutes walking all around taking pictures. Very nice! We wanted to get a feel for it. It's great, but we think we'd probably go with one 2 bedroom and a one bedroom or (2) two bedrooms for a family vacation next year with 9 people. I'm sure it will be easier to book the one or two bedrooms instead of the GV anyway.
If anyone had any questions about room 3538 let ask while its still all freash in my mind.
Best vacation ever. So glad I joined DVC.

So glad that you enjoyed your stay at OKW. We love it there. If you get the time, would you mind sharing your Grand Villa pictures with us?

Glad you enjoyed OKW. Although it isn't our "home" we have stayed there more than anywhere else. We love it. I never thought of asking to see a GV?

Great idea for next year.

I've also never seen a GV---why do u feel it will be difficult to book ? Do you have the 11 month home advantage with OKW ? Thanks so much for reporting back to us---was the sofa bed one of the newer mattresses ?
Glad u had a wonderful trip !

I've heard that since the OKW GV's are so much less points to rent then anywhere else that they can be hard to book sometimes.

I think most GV's anywhere can be a little tough. The best strategy is 11 months out, and book day by day vs booking by the week. Good luck if you change your mind and decide to stay in one :wave2:

Thanks so much for the trip report! I'd love to see your pics of the GV as well, as we've got one booked for later this year. We had to wait-list for ours but got it in plenty of time.

Thanks for the report. We just got home from a wonderful 1-bedroom at OKW, building #43. As usual, the room was perfect! Glad you are in on the OKW magic!

It sounds like you're uncertain whether to book a GV or a couple of smaller suites. That choice should probably depend on your own group's ability to get along in close quarters. The GV is beautiful, but everyone shares the public spaces for the entire trip. If that works for your group, go for it. But if you think people might get on other people's nerves, split 'em up!

Building 35 is a great location. It's very convenient to the bus stop, but there doesn't seem to be much bus noise. Even if you don't take the bus, there are soft drink & ice machines there (in case you are in a studio). You can also buy a paper there.

Its also a short walk to the Turtle Cove quiet pool. We almost always request this building (or one nearby) when staying at OKW.

Disney4ever, we left our room in OKW on Wednesday morning. Building 43 (wehre we were) is right behind #35, around the side of the water. We stayed in #35 last time and I just LOVE this whole area. My kids were out feeding the ducks constantly -- they probably ran right through your "backyard!" Turtle Pond area is getting to be my favorite.

Thank you for sharing your views of OKW on your first trip home. We have stayed in building 35 & liked the coziness of the u-shaped building. Have fun planning your family vacaton for next year!
