OKW renovations - mini rant

So sorry about your wife's fall  Hope it won't interfere with your trip :tinker:

Yes those blinds are maddening, it takes forever to open or close all of them, they look great but forget trying to get those things closed if you're pushing time towards a reservation.

Is the wireless available throughout the resort now, that would be great to have wifi at the pool so I can use my iPad or computer ?

Just got back. Yes, the wireless is installed but it is much slower than the wired service was. We used the wired service with our router (which we keep in our OL). It was much better.

We did not like using the shades either. I miss the old decor.

I've taken CarolMN's suggestion and just sent an email to DVC. Will let you know what they say.

Got a follow-up email (after the normal "form letter" response acknowledging receipt) saying that this was being referred to
our Member Correspondence team for further review. You may expect to be contacted again with regard to your message within 5 business days.

Got a phone call from DVC. Unfortunately, I wasn't around to answer the phone. They left a message that said essentially the same thing that the email said.

We must be the only ones who have had no problems with the blinds. Maybe the ones in our villa where attached correctly, but we can't understand what all the fuss is about. Someone above mentioned it took about 20 pulls to get them up. At about a second a pull that is 20 seconds, 30 tops.

I do feel for the people who received scrapes or got hurt trying to reach the beads, but we didn't have that issue.

I also LOVE the wood floors. We have them here at home and would never go back to carpet. I can understand if you are not use to them or have a medical issue that they are not as safe, but for now, DH and I have no medical problems and I think the floors are cleaner with the wood. DS16 has asthma that is induced by his allergy to dust mites.

As for the decor, it doesn't bother me, but I don't love it. DH does not like the new bed spread color at all. And the distressed look I really like. Have much of it in my own house.

I enjoy opening all of the blinds in the morning and unfortunately to get any kind of light into the kitchen since the new blinds are opaque you must roll them all the way up up, each panel. It's not only time prohibitive but I've scraped my fingers more than once. And, Oh joy, you must go through the entire process yet again to close them at night time.

The old blinds, 3 twist to open and shut! Though I like the look of the new, I think they are a pain.

As far as the rehab, I wish they had stayed truer to the original OKW theme, I'm not a fan of the dark wood but I like the laminent flooring and the addition of the sleeper chair!

We've stayed at OKW 3 or 4 times since the renovation. The first few times, we had the same problem with the patio door blinds that everyone complains about. But the last time we stayed, the first week of December, we were in building 34, and the blinds worked as they were designed to. Go figure! :confused3

Perhaps they were installed by the same wizards who hooked up the Washer/Dryers at BWV and reversed the hot and cold water! :lmao:

I really dislike the laminate flooring. If you have a little one, it's rough on the knees, and from visiting friends who stayed in a one-bedroom, the flooring was warped. It did not look any cleaner than the carpet either- lots of dust that did not pick up easily with the vacuum. I also dislike the darker colors. Every time we've been in Key West all the decor is light with light woods- what were they thinking? I still LOVE OKW though and the more spacious rooms. It's such a relaxing resort and will always be "home" to us.
