OKW renos

FYI, Buildings 49 and 50 have just completed renovations, in fact, building 50 should be ready for guests starting tomorrow.

I'm sorry to those who are very opposed to the renos. I LOVE them! I think it looks much more refreshed and something I'd want to stay in, as opposed to something old, drab, and tired. The old furnishings didn't really scream "1900's OKW" to me either, so I'm not too sad to see them go... more "early 1990's style" haha. Of course, I'm 25 so my tastes are reflected by my age; I want it new and clean. I like the "mishmosh" because I do think that they are complementary and they really did tie in the dark and light woods in several places as pointed out by a PP.

Now I'm thinking I want to do a 1 bedroom because those pictures are making me hanker for one!!

I do wish they'd have a footstool for the chair. I hate not having any place to put my feet!

ETA: It really reminds me of BC now (BC not BCV). And I happen to love all things beach, and really all things blue, so I love the new color scheme.

I agree with you. I stayed in a one bedroom 5 years ago. I really liked it but based on the pictures of the renovated rooms, I think the changes are for the better. I am 39 years old and I really like the color scheme. Seeing the pictures makes me want to stay there again. Wish I could use serene blue color scheeme in my current house but that would be to much of an undertaking given my current decor (mostly reds, browns and yellows)

I can understand how some people are upset that the Renovation hasnt been within the 'theme' of OKW, but in my humble opinion, I would MUCH rather sleep in a comfortable renovated bed that isnt exactly 'in theme' as opposed to an old uncomfortable bed that completely matches the OKW theme!!!

That being said, does anyone know which OKW GV's have been renovated? I will be at OKW in 19 days and I currently have a 'near HH' request, but might change it to a 'renovated' request if possible.

Thanks!

I just slept in an "old uncomfortable bed that completely matches the OKW theme " in May/June and it was very good. I had no problem with that bed. Ut was far from uncomfortable. You don't really need to change the decor just to get a new mattress.

I called the OKW front desk today and asked what buildings were finished with renovations and after getting handed off to a few CMs, I was told that all of Old Turtle Pond was done except for 34 and 35 (that would be buildings 30-44 if I am correct) as well as buildings 45-50.

They also told me that 35 and 51 would be next up....

I'll be there in 19 days to let you know for sure :cool1:

Have all OKW buildings be renovated by now?

Or by when should all of them be finished?

Completion is scheduled for Spring 2011. So I would guess in March or April it will be fully completed, depending upon weather, since it was so cold this year.

We were in bldg 35 last week, in a studio. this bldg is complete. I don't really understand the theme or the design but, that's why I am not a designer. Quality replacements in the same scheme may have been a more cost effective option.:hippie:

I totally agree with the bolded statement! I really didn't "mind" the renovations, but with the exception of not being as true to theme as I would have liked, t he worst part is how cheap it now looks. My first trip to OKW 15 years ago had such a "WOW" factor to it, and that was mostly because of the quality. Now the vinyl flooring that replaced the high end tile in the kitchen just looks cheap, and the fact that it already looked dirty and unkempt when we were there last month does not bode well for it holding up to WDW crowds in the future.

We will be in a 1 br, arriving on the 15th for 8 nights. I am really curious about how we will feel about the updates in a 1 br. While in the studio, we really noticed the noise in the adjoining 1 br due to the removed carpeting. This has been my biggest fear. There is no way that wood look vinyl can be quieter than carpet in a living room. We heard each step our neighbors took. They had a running toddler who was practicing for a marathon. (is the Marathon this week ;) ?) Anyway, I feel for the people below them, as it was loud for us just being next to them.

As for the colors in the studio, it was just ok. I liked the brown headboards and tv cab/dresser, but I agree, It does not go well with the pickled finish of the kitchenette and bathroom vanity cabinet. I have been following the conversations about the bedspreads.. I did not really love the pink old ones and now again, I really don't love the new blue ones.. The only thing I like about them is that they are new.. I don't mind the blue walls, but again I agree, Why change it? Let's stay in the the theme.. I wanted to reserve my comments until I had first hand experience. I like it cause it's new, I don't love the new theme. :hippie:

That pretty much sums it up for my opinion, too. They could have done much better.

Can you imagine the outcry if they had done similar at BWV? Remember how everyone was upset when they changed the wallpaper in the corridor? But if they had do major color changes in the villas, it would have been lots of noise from the owners there.

I understand they didn't have as much money as they thought they did at OKW, but to make up for the lack of funds by doing it so cheaply.... Just doesn't make sense. They must have had a very expensive designer and crew doing the labor.

I think one of my biggest complains is the ugly vinyl flooring. I noticed a lot more noise, and they could have put some drapes in the living room similar to the bedrooms, it would provide some insulation and some noise muffling, too.

Does anyone know if building 27 has been renovated?

I sent question to DVC staff and got no help.

Here's there response:

"We appreciate your interest in a DISNEY VACATION CLUB Resort. Although
we don't have access to the schedule to know which building have been or
are being renovated, the process should be completed by late Summer or
early Fall. This is subject to change."

We are set for trip mid-March and asked for bldg 27 (close to bus stop and HH), but we'll need the sleeper chair. Wondering if I should call and change room request to add renovated room.

Thanks!:guilty:

Could calling the resort directly get you this info?:confused3 Maybe give that a try. We are stayin in a studio mid February, I thought all the rooms were already finished:scared1:

Just got home from 10 days at OKW in a 2bdrm in building 23, I think it's a HH area building and it was not a renovated room. That said I thought the room was in great shape and we really enjoyed our stay there, so much so that my wife said we need to do an add on as soon as possible. Got home to 15 degrees and -15 overnight tonight, I'm in my comfort zone here but man am I going to miss OKW.

Just got home from 4 nights at OKW in room 1422. It is a renovated room.

IMO: The flat screen tv is great. I like the new carpet.

Negative: the location of the internet access cable at the table between the beds. Terrible location for me. I was told by IT that most folks like to use their laptops from their bed. Doesn't work for me.

Negative: Drapery treatment for door to balcony. Too much trouble to open and close.

Negative: Design of bedspreads/drapes matches colors in paint and pictures but IMO looks like Interior Design 101. Don't like it at all.

Negatives wont keep me from staying at OKW as it is my home and my favorite resort.:goodvibes

That's an awfully lame answer. Where's the customer service effort? I realize it must be difficult for them to answer all of the different types of questions that I'm sure they must get, but if THEY don't know the schedule, or at least have access to it, who does/would?!
