For the folks who have just returned from OKW, what buildings in the resort are being worked on at this time? Is it possible to find out which units will be unavailable for an upcoming trip in early April. Thanks for any information you can provide.

We're at OKW right now and it appears that they are completing the rehab on buildings in the 38,39,40,41 area. Tonite they have blocked off the parking areas fro buildings 51 and 52, where it appears they will begin work soon.

I'd just make your requests as usual. They won't place anyone in a building that's being rehabbed anyway.

Enjoy!

I am not Doc, but I was the first person to stay in a refurbed unit on my last trip. From what I could tell, they are:

Installing new carpet
Painting all of the walls
Installing new appliances in the kitchen (stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers)
New wooden blinds
Retiling or regrouting the patio or balcony
New sofas
New mattresses
New DVD players
New ceiling fans
New washers and dryers
Maybe new countertops in the kitchen
Maybe new shutters between the master bedroom and bathroom

That's all I can think of at the moment. In addition, just recently they repainted all of the exteriors of the buildings and resurfaced the three smaller pools. OKW is looking brand new these days!

WOW! That's great!!

Great - we'll be home in a little over a month. Maybe we'll get a refurbished 2BR unit!!! I hope so! :bounce:

Does anyone know when the refurbishments will be complete? What buildings are left to be done?

Well, if they are starting 52 now, then there should be ten left. I wonder if they will actually do buildings 62,63, and 64 now though, since those are quite a bit newer. We were in building 63 in August, and it was in great shape.

Great question Diane as that was my request! I'm curious as well?

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. DOC or anyone - do you know if Bldgs. 43 & 44 have already been done? Thanks.

We stayed in a dedicated 2BR in Building #62 President's week. There was a new couch and loveseat in the Living Room.
(I prefer the original fabric) Everything else looked the same... wonderful! Oh, also a DVD player instead of VCR.

Our room wasn't ready when we got there, so we went to get some Video "rentals". The CM asked for our room #. When I said we don't know yet, he checked our name in the computer and told us that we need to get the DVDs for our room. So, I guess there are VCRs and DVDs, but I still don't know if our room was one of the ones that had been renovated.

You say they changed the fabric style on the sofa? We were in 29 last month, and it had been refurbished, but the fabric style was the same as always on the sofa. Only the chair in the master was a different fabric.

Yes, Diane, I thought the fabric looked different, it had a lot of blue in it. Then I looked at the picture of a room at OKW and realized that they HAD changed the fabric.

And another thing, the couch cushions looked as if it was really slipcovers, since it was loose. But when I checked, the couch was upholstered, not slipcovered.

Strange! Oh, Well!!!

donald@home, the new blinds are wooden?
I thought someone not to long ago mentioned they were upset the new blinds going in were that plastic type?

That is good to know. I would think wooden blinds would be way, way more nicer and if anything longer lasting.

Yes, the blinds are plastic with a wooden grain. Sorry I mis-typed. I should have just said new blinds. I was a little disapointed when I realized they were not wooden too, but the new blinds still LOOK very nice.

The original fabric did and does have a bluish purple in it. Perhaps the newness of the fabric made it look different. I did notice that our sofa had been recovered or was new, but the fabric was basically the same.

Back in November of 2002, they were working on building 43, if I remember correctly.
