OKW questions

Just a few quick ??? for you experts.... If we can manage the trip in the Fall, it will be our first trip to a DVC resort (hopefully as members if we don't get ROFR'd). I kinda talked DH into this, and want him to have a great first impression. I'd like to stay at OKW for all the glowing reviews and big rooms, but with the main pool under construction (we have two DS's - ages 6 and 7), I'm not sure if it 's the place to go. Are the quiet pools enough to make up for the main pool, and also - how long would it take by bike to get over to the SSR pool nearby? Is there a direct walking path connecting the two? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

All the neighborhood pools at OKW are comparable to the main pool as of right now -- They all have a hot tub,playground,BBQ grills and laundry at them. The turtle shack pool is the MOST comparable though as it also has a limited snack bar (open seasonally) , a little larger play area and another small game room. The only thing at the main pool itself as of right now before the pool slide installation that the other pools do not have would be the kiddie pool and sauna. And of course the fact that it's right near HH,Gurgling suitcase & Olivia's/Goods to go, Community hall/hank's rent and return - but those will still be open. Only the pool area itself will be closed

As for how close to SSR -- there's a walking path to DTD. I've never taken it personnally so I don't know how easy (or not so easy) it would be to walk to SSR via the walkway. But it is said that they will be shuttling guests to SSR during the pool rehab via boat so you could always do that if you're interested or if you'll have your own car you could just drive over.

There is paved walkway that begins behind building 55 at OKW and follows the Trumbo Canal to SSR and DD. It's about a 15 minute walk- obviously faster by bike.

I found this link that has some pictures of the Old Turtle Pond pool (bottom two photos). They only show a portion of the actual pool/recreation area but they give you an idea of how nice this pool is.

Are you going to spring for the one-bedroom?

I think if you can swing the one-bedroom you will really impress the hubby! The studio is terrific but you get the real "WoW" factor in a full unit.

We walked from SSR to OKW on our last trip and it was no more than 15 minutes.. and quite a nice walk too. You can also take a boat to DTD and then walk over to SSR or take the boat..

How do you walk from SSR to OKW? I'd like to do that when we're there in January. Where does the path start at SSR? And where does it come out at OKW? Is the path lighted (thinking of walking over for dinner at Olivia's) and how long a walk is it?

To get to Olivia's would be a bit of a walk. I can't tell you exactly where the path starts at SSR - somewhere over near the sales center, I believe...

But it comes out at building 55. From there, you have to walk quite a ways to get to Olivia's. A "nice walk," but probably 10-15 minutes, I would guess.

It's certainly doable, but you're probably looking at 30 minutes, or more.

Maybe you could catch the DD boat on its way back to OKW? It would take you right to Olivia's back door!
