Great point. I was shocked by the OKW members who were almost hysterical about "daring" to suggest that any new improvements were possible for OKW then magically and suddenly jumping on the bandwagon declaring they wanted a new slide all along, and saw it coming. Who's slide is better will probably ensue. Go figure.

It's also interesting to see the current polls and how different they are from all the adamently stated reports of "the vast majority as demonstrated in polls on this forum" don't want a pool.

The slide is great news.

For our family this is great news. Especially when we visit Florida when it is cold back home, swimming is our main activity. The pool slide will be a great addition to OKW, which was "practically perfect in every way!" There are 3 quiet pools at OKW, so it's not as if people seeking peace and quiet won't be able to find it. We typically swim in the quiet pools, but now, some of the time, we'll go to the main pool -- so the quiet pools MAY get quieter after the slide goes in!

I hope it's a gentle slide geared to all ages, like the one at Coronado Springs.

I believe you are mistaken. Please tell us who the OKW members are who were "almost hysterical," but are now "magically and suddenly jumping on the bandwagon."

There have been, and continue to be, OKW owners who like the main pool area at OKW as it was when they purchased (and have no desire to pay higher dues for something they don't want). And there have always been those who would like the pool even better with a slide.

The decision to add a slide appears to be a "done deal," so we'll just make the best of it. Some of us will use the slide; some of us won't. It appears our dues are likely to go up at least 4 cents per point. (That's not the end of the world, but it's yet another increase on top of recent increases for insurance and taxes.)

And I'd still like to know what is means that "Disney" is paying for the design and construction of the slide. DVD (developer's money)? DVC-OKW capital reserves (our money)? Disney Resorts?

I'm tired of posts that disparage OKW owners.

No, I won't mention names (as easy as it would be to cut and paste many, many quotes). People know what they have posted regarding inaccurate polls and responses they have given to requests for a polite discussion of possible OKW improvements.

The 180 degree change and being in favor of the slide is nice to see and a slide is a welcome OKW resort addition.

I think this is pretty common feeling among ALL DVC owners. BWV, BCV, VB, VWL & HH owners are pretty tired of posts that disparage their home resort also.

I can think of only one person here who disparage BWV and two who like to disparage OKW AND OKW owners. I have never seen the one who likes to berate BWV every belittle BWV owners, so that leaves a couple of people in a class by themselves. If stating an opinion is considered to be disparaging a resort, than that is someone's perception, not a fact . I fail to see why the died in the wool BWV owners in question should even CARE what happens to OKW dues!

As to the pool, I do not see OKW owners as "almost hysterical" or "jumping on the bandwagon". I certainly would not have voted for a slide, but , as I have stated several times, I really don't care one way or the other. I don't use the main pool area anyway.

Given the very strong case DeeP made and the multi page post discussion you posted in, this seems a very dissingenuine statement to make. DeeP explained at length and in detail how this affects BWV owners.

But this thread is about OKW pool slides, right. I also seem to remember some strong statements regarding staying within thread topics?

I also think the segretation projected by OKW owners is not appropriate, when BWV owners cannot get into the resort they own at, and there are plenty of reservations still available at OKW, all members making reservations (even as a second or third choice) at OKW should have access and input to the amenities they desire as a part of thier DVC membership. The impact of a slide on OKW dues by the calculations above are miniscule.

Jeeeeeeeeze, it's just a pool slide folks!!! Glad to see some of you strongly opposing the OKW improvements in other threads at least being able to dscuss them somewhat positively. The slide is a nice addition.

This thread was just starting to get good........I guess I will have to go back to the Debate boards.

I think the slide will be "good thing" for OKW in the long run. If there would have been a vote, I would have voted it down.

I think one of the reasons they didn't ask for a vote (at least one we know about, they certainly could have conducted multiple surveys we didn't hear about) is because this is a major step toward the elimination of pool hopping. We've already seen this with SAB and are hearing it about SSR.

Without pool hopping, the slide decision not only affects OKW owners staying at thier own home resort, but also affects owners from other resorts staying at OKW who would no longer have access to this type of kid friendly pool amenity, that thier kids really like. It's just a slide, won't be that bad.

I can"t wait for the slide at OKW. I think the picture of the pirate ship slide by (werner weiss) will do just fine
but maybe we should add a couple planks for the disgruntled (all of us) to walk every so often. Better yet lets get a slide coming down from the lighthouse across the rope bridge and out the eyepatch of a face, cool huh!

Whew, now I'm back to using FREE Internet!

Someone at the meeting suggested later that this might be one of DVC's ways of softening the blow when they discontinue the pool-hopping priveleges. At least the OKW members will have access to a pool slide when they can no longer pool-hop. I was just concerned about when this enhancement will take place, weather-wise. I hope they're planning on doing this very soon, like in January when the weather's often too cold to swim anyways. I'd hate to see the OKW main pool down in the hot weather (especially in May, when we'll be there).

Sorry for the misunderstanding about $10 for 15 minutes. That's what they charged (when I ran out after the meeting) in the Boardwalk Business Center across the hall.

I told our kids the slide news and they said they will stop calling it "Old, Old Key West" now.

My husband and I never felt that way about Old Key West, but the kids said it reminded them of a retirement village.
