OKW pool slide

Yes. There will be plenty of OKW owners who will be unhappy to see their dues go up for somthing they don't want, and that was not a part of the resort when they bought in.

I'm not sure I understand your point or why you take pleasure in seeing DVC reach into the wallets of OKW owners for something that the majority (according to the controlled survey a few years ago) do not want.
After years of constantly having the "lowest dues, blah, blah blah" quote posted over and over and over, this is pretty humorous. :teeth:

Yeah, can you imagine what would happened if the next resort actually had larger rooms then OKW. Some posters may have absolutely nothing to post about- over and over and over again.

OMG...........a resort with bigger rooms than OKW AND lower dues than OKW!! I do believe there are those on this board that would go into cardiac arrest!

Or there are those of us who might actually consider an add-on if Disney Vacation Development finally ever builds another resort with spacious condos.

Many of us were surprised that a new stand-alone resort like SSR will have the same compact "hotel form factor" room layout as BWV, VWL, and BCV, rather than the deluxe condo layout of OKW.

Why would you need another DVC resort with bigger rooms than OKW to do an add on? You can certainly add on at one of the DVC resorts that have the "compact, "hotel form factor" " room layout but then stay exclusively at the country resort with the "deluxe condo layout". :teeth:

I'm also a little surprised DVC stuck with the smaller rooms. The location of SSR has ample space for larger accomodations, unlike trying to fit in an add-on wing at WL and BC. It seems pretty obvious the reason they chose the smaller rooms.

Pam,
Thanks for the POS statement.:D I was searching for mine but who knows where it is.
That makes things pretty clear, DVC is well within its rights to add a slide. I look forward to seeing the progress through Docs digital lens:D

My feeling has always been that a "poll" really means that's what Disney wants to do. I was surprised that they didn't go ahead and put in the slide way back when since, to me, polling at all meant they wanted to do it. They must have been a little taken aback by the strong anti-slide response they received. I agree that "It's always easier to ask forgiveness than permission." is the way that DVC looks at things.

I know I did say that Disney would eventually put in the slide if they wanted it. Some people argued that wouldn't be possible and/or Disney wouldn't foot the bill to add the slide. Adding the slides at the GF and Poly seemed, to me, to be the handwriting on the wall that a slide might come to OKW. So, this time they skipped the poll and just made a quiet announcement. I suspected that Disney could do whatever they'd like but didn't know for sure until I dragged out the POS last night. All the legalese basically boils down to Disney always has control over what happens at DVC resorts. The resorts are part of the total WDW package that they sell and it seems that they do want to keep them uniform.

My kids have always preferred to swim laps and play catch and hubby and I never allow them to play when there are other people around.

Thank you for being a good parent! I'm not being sarcastic at all, I can't stand swimming in the quiet pool at BCV since there always seems to be kids and adults playing nerf football and throwing their bodies around. They really don't seem to care that there are quite a few other people swimming in the pool.

We're delighted about the slide, I hope it's a nice addition. Can't wait to see the artist rendering!

Anyone know how many total points were sold at OKW?

I found a post that claimed there were 4.7 million points at BWV, but couldn't find stats for OKW. Using the BWV figure, an increase in dues of .01 would generate revenue of $47,000.

OKW's point charts are lower than BWV, although it has a few more rooms. So, my assumption is that OKW probably has a few more points that BWV.

Anyway, if an increase in dues of just $.02 per point would generate upward of $100,000 in revenue, I'm hard pressed to think that this expansion will cost more than that amount annually to maintain. You've got a couple of lifeguards at just over minimum wage, plus whatever it costs to "maintain" the slide itself (since OKW dues are already paying for the pool and surrounding facilities.) Maybe additional insurance expenses?

DVC is paying for the initial install, so that won't come out of members' pockets.

I'm looking at this as a dues increase of less than 1% annually for OKW owners. I can understand how some may be philosophically against adding the slide if they don't use it, but this also isn't tremendously expensive upgrade.

Anyone take issue with this non-scientific analysis?

Just wanted to clarify that the Polynesian ALWAYS had a water slide. In fact my sons both liked the old one better. It was much shorter but soooo cool. Shorter lines too because you could zip through it a few times and be done.

Good point, even if it is twice as much, that's only $.04 per point. Figures look OK. Hardly a huge increase in dues to warrant all the doom and gloom claimed soley due to a cost increase.

Maybe not so much surprised as dissapointed. The size of the Vero rooms is nice.

Well count me in as one who is tickled pink about the slide news! We love OKW and wished it had a slide... now it will. For us the increase in dues will be well spent!

YAYAY!!!:bounce:

I don't know a "for sure" number but by dividing both the Total Revenue & Income and the Total Operating Expenses 2004 Budget totals by the "per point" cost, I come out with 7,674,907 points. Individual line items come out differently when I use this system so this is just a rough estimate. There are 531 Vacation Homes. A $.04 increase would give them roughly $307,000 to work with.

LOL I tried backing into the numbers for BWV also. Funny how each line is different. I was tring to determine total BWV points now that the new Units were added.

Anyway Pam, my informational sheet shows OKW with total points of 7,674,930 very close to your calculation. :) :) Good Job :) :)

I think this is great news for the resort.

And I liked the photo with the ship superimposed. Reminded me of the one with the clown slide/skull. I hope they put something on this slide that the BWV owners can call scarey.

I have a feeling we will be seeing more boasting later on - OKW slide is longer, slide is faster, slide is more fun, slide has better theming etc etc.

(Just kidding OKW fans. My best friend owns there and loves it.)
