Got a call today from our guide about pts for OKW through there waitlist(DVC).We were 3rd on there list for the last 7 months :( . He said there were 177 pts available, and we could have how many pts we wanted of that amount. We just added on at VB (200 pts) this yr, so we passed on these pts since we are at 500 total now.
But he also said they would be $80 per pt now and $84 pt in 3 weeks. Even if I do want more OKW pts in the future I would definately go the re-sale route. When we bought our OKW pts in 1999 they were $65 pt, even the VB pts we bought this yr were $62 pt(and we will go there every yr Rich;)). I am very glad we bought when we did.:)
So whoever is on the waitlist behind us will be getting a call.:)

Why would anyone buy OKW points through the DVC for $80/point when they are SO much cheaper via resale?

because most resale contracts are 150 points or more, and sometimes people are only looking to add on 10 or 20 points.

Another reason is that small contracts of 25 or 50 pts still mean a closing cost of $400 or more , which makes it not cost-effective to buy those small contracts by resale if the cost per pt is over $60, which it always is. Also, many of those small contracts have their pts stripped for the year. I have been waiting for 7 months for pts from OKW, and just recently bought 250 pt contract from BWV, for a total of 700 pts. I would love 50 pts or so from OKW, though, so I would be glad to pay $80 per pt in order to avoid closing costs, and still get the current year's pts. I hope I'm next on the list! I'm excited, and thanks for posting!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Cruella & Mickey are absolutely right!
Small packages via resale are rare, and closing costs from the title agencies add to the point cost quickly. However, if a resale is available, you can always make an offer because most sellers realize they are competing with Disney.

Another factor is use year. If Disney has your particular use year, it may be faster to use them regardless of the cost. I once had a February use year buyer waiting for over a year before an add-on became available, and by the time it did, the Canadian dollar had dropped so much they had to pass.

On the other hand, I have many clients who have multiple use years and will take any use year to get the value.

All the best,
Shontell
