Our dgd who is 3 1/2 loves to play in the sand and dig and so forth. I wondered if anyone knew if there is enough sand at the playground area for her to dig with a pail and shovel. I thought this would be a great way to relax and unwind with her. She loves to dig at the beach and this way DH and I can entertain her while DS, DIL and dgd who is 9 can enjoy the slide. To be honest, I have never really paid attention in all our trips to this. She was only 1 yr old on her first trip and her sister's first trip was when she was 4 1/2 years old and she was more interested in the pool. Thanks for the help.

All the pools have a sand area for kids to play in. They are well back from the pools so the sand does not get in the pools.

Thanks Pa@okw95 - so I will assume there's plenty for a sand pail and shovel.

tons - just make sure she washes (at the pool) before returning to your villa.

sand gets into everything.

There is a nice sandbox play area immediately behind the new slide at the main pool.

Enjoy!

We've set up "camp" at the sand area just right of the pool. There are chairs in the sand and it has been great for the kids. We swim (few steps away), play in the sand with our sand toys (from home), and then rinse off in the shower that's right next to the pool. It has been wonderful!

I did notice that the sand area behind the pool has a play area too. However, the slide is not working. The other play things are too old for my 19 month (chain ladder onto a platform).

The sand is great, but like the above poster, it is everywhere (hair, clothes, floor, bathtub, etc.) :sunny:

Do you mean the new slide is closed? Are they rehabing it already?

Hi Everyone: Thanks for the advice. She is going to love it! Yes, we will definitely wash off before returning to the pool or the condo. Since we live on the ocean, I very aware of how the sand gets into everything. Even when you think you have removed it all by rising off outside before going into the house, there's always more. It'll definitely be bath time after playing in the sand. Her other favorite thing is the playground so I think it is going to work out great for letting her just relax and unwind from the parks.

yes the sand area behind the kiddi pool (if they haven't change that park with the new slide, I don't see them doing that.) is a very big sand play area. Very nice. Bring sand toys. She will have lots of fun.

The only thing better is the shallow pool at SAB (BCV) that has sand and water together. Very cool.

You should have a blast at OKW, check out Y&BC sometime too. It really is great for young kids. :sunny:

Hi Everyone: I just want to say a special thank you to Pa@okw95, spiceycat, Webmaster Doc and dianeschlicht. I have been a DVC member since 93 going home twice a year and discovered these boards in 2001. As you can see, I am more of a lurker than a poster. However, whenever I have a question, the replies from all of you have always been informative, polite and positive. Most of the time, I can find the answer to my question by just checking these boards and all of you are such a wealth of knowledge. Like this question, although I've been to OKW over and over, I just never noticed whether there was enough sand for a child to dig and play. I knew the sand was there, but my other gd is a pool lover and was more interested in that. Anyway, I do have another point. Over the past six months or longer, I have noticed that as always all of you and other people that have been long time posters from the DVC board (I can't recall all the names right now, Dean, Pam, etc.) and continue to maintain your politeness, courtesy, and extreme helpfulness. Unfortunately, it seems that there are people joining these boards who feel it's alright to be rude and offensive and what is most upsetting to me is the way they have lashed out at some of you. I know you are all capable of defending yourselves, but I wanted to say I for one have been so appreciative of your dignity and class on these boards. Richyams always liked to get a debate going and it was always done in the spirit of fun, but these people are just plain classless and rude at times and many of their comments are totally inappropriate. I have seen some people who have bascially called someone stupid for asking a question. I'm of the belief that no question is stupid. We learn by questioning and I see red whenever someone does that to another person. But, I can always count on one of you to respond and make the OP feel better. I have replied on a few occasions to the OP and let them know just how rude that person was being to them. Anyway, this is long, but I felt I really wanted to let all of you know that I think you're what's made these boards so great and I hope these rude, argumentative, offensive people will eventually disappear. Again, thank you.

Thanks for the nice thoughts, and yes, we can mostly hold our own against some of the rude ones. I will say that the rudeness is sometimes done in fun kind of like Richyams was. Believe it or not we are ALL learning something from this board all the time.

Back in Nov 03 was the first time went to the play area behind the main pool. We didn't bring sand toys but one look at the great sand play area sent me to the the OKW store where I bought 3 pail and shovels sets for my DGDs. The nice CM got a magic marker and wrote each name on a pail. The girls spent hours playing there.

I always regretted that we didn't have little kids anymore to take advantage of that great sand play area. Heck, it looked like I would like to play in it!

Sorry, dianeschlicht. I ment the little kiddie slide in the play area. The super awesome water slide is up and running. We have to pry my dd off of it!! She loves it and has gone down the slide then passed me as I was climbing up!! :earseek: Either kids are getting faster or I'm getting slower. I'm going to go with the kids getting faster!! ;)

Did they add an little kiddie slide too? That is really cool. My DD loves those (like at BB in tykes peak) but is scared of the larger ones. Oh, now OKW is sounding like a better option. Still she had lots of fun last time must in the kiddie pool and in the big pool with dad.

I don't think there is a "kiddie" slide just the new sandcastle one that Doc posted.

Just a regular run of the mill slide in the sandbox area behind the super awesome water slide. The kiddie slide is part of the jungle gym. However, it (not the water slide) is closed right now. It's been really hot here, so I guess it's ok this little slide is closed. A few hot buns may have been the end result!! ;)

So, I have been trying for over half an hour tofigure it out and I am coming up with nothing!!! lol
Disney PhD wrote in his post to try out Y & BC...the kids love it???
I just can't figure out what this stands for?? Could someone help me out??
We will be at OKW 10/29 - 11/5 with 2 kids...DD6 and DS4 and can't wait!!
Thanks!

Y+BC= Yatch and Beach Club.
Pool Hopping is not allowed at this swim area. SAB=Storm Along Bay.
But there is a big sand area across from the pool area.
