Whenever I read rumors such as the new check-in policy, my first test of whether it might be true is "What's in it for Disney?".

I must admit, I'm not sure what a change in request priorities would do for Disney for DVC point reservations. Right now, they get the requests way in advance, can plan accordingly and it allows them to make room assignments in an unhurried, fair way.

The "first come, first serve" would make check-ins a nightmare, with negotiating/whining being handled with many who check in, thus slowing an already slow process. What would Disney get? Lots of headaches, whining and fair complaints from those whose flights arrive later in the day (or night). Being objective, Disney would also get a way to be able to tell people "sorry, that room went to someone who was here earlier". But now, they can say "sorry, that room went to someone who had their request in before yours".

As idontknow said, this could make sense if for cash ressies only, since they get those calls and faxes a few days before asking for room preferences. But for DVC members, this makes absolutely no sense at all unless I'm missing some benefit to Disney.
