We are going to OKW for the first time in DEC. We are going with my in-laws who have not been to WDW since it first opened. We are getting a 2-bedroom but need a first floor because my father-in-law has a bad hip and it will be to much for him to walk up and down the stairs each day. My mother-in-law will be spending a lot of time in the room and I want her to enjoy the hotel. Has anyone stayed in a first floor room? What are the patios like? Is there a room I should request to get a nice view or near the water? Since we have never stayed there and not even seen the property, I have no idea about the resort at all. Any answers would be very helpful. I really want them to enjoy WDW and get some of the Disney Magic. Thanks. :earsgirl:

call ms back and say you need a first floor because of health reason - explain why (they will ask) - you should not have a problem.

request water view, near a bus stop or quiet pool. they also have golf and woods views.

I happen to like building 18 or 20 - I also like building 55 - but that is too far for your father-in-law to walk.

a 2-bedroom should give you a good view - you have much more window space - not to mention patio space than a studio.

you can also get a wheelchair free for your father at the front desk - you can put it on your reservation too - but remember they are not guaranteed.

19 is the smoking building in the same area.

Don't make your requests too specific. I would ask for an acessible room for medical reasons and suggest either a first floor or elevator building. Building 62,63,64 are all elevator buildings and would be easily acessible. We have stayed in a first floor room too, and it is not as nice as being up higher. BTW, those buildings are also close to HH and the main pool.

Thanks for all the help. I have already asked for the medical room and we will have a car so it will be easy for them to get around. Is the view really that much better from the second floor? I just want them to have a great time. :earsgirl:

I think there are some nice views for a 2-bedroom on the first floor - however the second floor does have better views (my opinion) - now if you were getting a studio - they are alot better on the second and third floor - but a 2-bedroom has a pretty good view no matter what floor.

We always stay on a first floor because my parents can't do the steps. The views are just fine. You are close enough to "smell the flowers!" My children also enjoy being close to the ducks, bunnies and birds.

Southpoint (#54,55,56) is great. These buildings are right by a quiet pool and are peaceful. They look at water, not a golf course, but this area is our favorite. It's a cul-de-sac so no buses come close and my Mom appreciates the handicapped parking right outside the door.

Have fun! This is a great place for grandparents.

Thanks colleen costello, that's just the kind of information I was looking for. My MIL will love being close to the flowers and so will my DD. I love the handicapped parking space and that it's a cul-de-sac. You guys and these boards a great. Thanks again.:earsgirl:
