I noticed that the OKW Grand Villas points are almost half of what most resorts are e.g. Summer 2011 56 for Mon-thur. Are they really that inferior to other grand villas or is it that they are smaller or just older?
Because you can get a lot more with your points booking a grand villa at OKW then anywhere else.
:)

In fact the OKW GVs are larger than the others. Significantly larger than the BLT and only slightly larger than BWV.

The points for OKW GVs were determined a long time ago when DVC was new. They have since made the newer resorts cost more points for each size unit with sucessive buildouts on new DVC resorts.

In fact, the OKW GVs are possibly the best value in all of the DVC system. We LOVE them, and are greatful that they are such a good value.

Thanks for your quick response.

I would love to bring extended family in the near future, but do not want use up points for 3 years doing so.

I am glad OKW points are low too!:cool1:

We've been staying in OKW GVs since 93. In my opinion it is by far the best value of DVC when staying with a large group. They are HUGE! Try to get a GV near the hospitality house. We love building 25. Great view of the golf course from the balcony. :goodvibes

I haven't stayed in 25, but I can tell it would be a great location! If you can't get HH catagory, buildings 15, 16, and 63 are nearby and also have good views. I like 15 and 16 because you can easily choose to use any one of 3 bus stops when going to and from the parks. We like sending young ones from the party down to Miller's Road bus stop. When they see the bus, they call, and the rest of us head out to Hospitality House and get on the bus there. Works well for coming home too, where you can get off at the first stop at Penninsular Road and make the short walk back to 15/16/63.

One word of advice: If you do not own at OKW then be sure to call at exactly 7 months out for a GV. OKW has a lot of GVs but they are such a good value that many folks book them. We added on at OKW just to have home resort booking advantage for GVs. I will be anxious to see what the GVs look like after rehab. I thought they are already pretty fabulous!

Jean, what do you think of the rehab photos we've seen so far? I think it has lost the themeing a bit when they used the dark woods and brighter colors.

Hi, Diane,
I am no interior designer but the new decor looks very eclectic and not at all like the original theme of the resort. I have NOT seen the rooms in person yet, however. I have read a few comments that the results are not as bad when you see them in person. We will be at WDW next week and may stop at OKW to see if we can take a peek. We hope to stay at OKW next May when all the room refurbishments should be complete.
P.S. Go, Twins! We're bringing our Twins shirts to WDW for the play-offs. Will you be at the games? I only managed to attend one game at Target Field.

:rolleyes1 Yes, they are inferior. You really don't want to stay there, especially not in the Summer of 2011! :rolleyes1

Just kidding!

With all of the refurbishement and renewed interest in OKW, I'm having trouble getting into my own resort! All kidding aside, the GV's are fabulous!. We've had several (3) reunions in the last 10 years, my favorite GV buildings are #15 due to its proximity to HH, the main pool etc. and the view of the golf course/fountain and then I also love #56 , it's near the quiet pool, jacuzzi and the BBQ grills.

I have one reserved for June 2011, my son's graduating from the 8th grade and we're spending 4 days with some of his friends before they all head off to different high schools!

When you have a large gathering, and you all get along, an OKW GV can't be beat! You'll get that "WoW" factor the minute you step inside!

We also have one in June 2011 and celebrating graduation. Our son is graduating from HS and the three of us plus several of his friends are moving into a GV at OKW for a week in early June.

:thumbsup2 Checking in June 6 - checking out June 10th!

We go this time every year to beat the big summer heat and crowds!

We're checking in June 3 and checking out June 10. We'll look for you!

We usually head for WDW the end of May, but we'll usually stay through early June to miss the crowds. We had to go a bit later this year because one of the girls going with us couldn't go until after June 1.

I got an OKW Grand Villa for next summer. It will be our first time in one. We are really looking forward to it. We usually stay in 2 bedroom villas.

You will absolutely LOVE the GV's at OKW...that is our GV of choice because they are HUGE! Enjoy!

We are going to OKW in December and have requested building 45 or 46, and they have been refurbished, so maybe I'll get a first hand look soon. We are staying in a GV in January, but I think we requested buildings 15 or 16, so probably wont get a refurbished GV.

We are sad to see the end of the first season in Target Field. We LOVE the ballpark, but not so much the location. Our seats are right behind home plate. Now if we could just get the Twins to get over this rough spot they are having after clinching the division!:scared1:
