OKW grand villa at 7 months?

For the first time, we are sharing our DVC and bringing my Disney-loving sister in law and family with us in June. Here's my question: is there any chance at all of getting an OKW grand villa at 7 months? That's the biggest we can afford without borrowing any points. My plan is to reserve a 2 BR at SSR at 11 months, then try to change to an OKW grand villa at 7 months. If OKW is not available, we'll try to change to one of the 2 br resorts that sleep 9 and have an extra bathroom. If that doesn't work, we'll keep the 2br at SSR and possibly add a studio if my niece can come (she would put our total at 9, but she's graduating from college and probably can't come). I'd borrow points and book a grand villa at SSR, but I know we'd be sad next year when we wouldn't have any points. Does this sound feasible?

Depending on when your use year starts and when your banking deadline is, I'd probably book enough "room" to sleep everyone in the party now at SSR and then try for the GV when the 7 month window opens up. That way, if you don't get the GV, you'll still have reservations that will accommodate your whole crew.

As for availability...It's hit or miss at best. You never know if you might get lucky, and June might actually be easier than some other times of the year.

While I wouldn't call it impossible, many people call the OKW GV's the best bargain in all of DVC! Depending on the length of your stay, the shorter the easier, the longer the stay the harder the ressie. You never know, give it a shot, but don't get your hopes too high!

If you are a SSR owner, try to get a THV. 3BR, sleeps 9. Could be the way to go. And the same points as a 2br!

I second reserving a THV at 11 months, then if you “splurge” and get the GV you are lucky and if not you have a good fallback position. There is a very good chance of getting a 2BR + studio at OKW also, Kidani and BLT might be possible at 7 months if you are not trying to book to many days in a row.

Thanks! I completely overlooked TRV as being part of SSR (where we own and can book at 11 months ) We would like to stay there anyway--I'll try to book that next week.

In case you cannot get SSR/THV, we just got back from OKW grand villa that we had wait-listed [we own at BCV/SSR] I think your chances are good. By the way the villas are huge and having 4 bathrooms with showers made getting ready to go out no problem.

4 Bathrooms sure sounds great--we'll have 5 teens/early 20s with us. I booked a Treehouse Villa right at the 11 month point, and I'll try for the grand villa at 7. Thanks for the help! June seems very very far away. I'm a teacher, so I know the weeks will fly by as soon as school starts.

The OKW GV rocks! We got it at 7 months out no problem. I truly cannot believe what an awesome deal it is and how spacious it was. My trip report (see siggy) has some photos.
