Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me with a question. I am looking at going to DWD in Dec. with my daughter and my parents. My father has a bad hip and doing stairs would be a problem. If requested would Disney guaranty a first floor room or would they just say they'd do their best. I would just be renting the points and am worried that we would get something besides first floor.

Any information would be appreciated.

I requested nonsmoking, first floor OR room in building with elevator for medical reasons and it was honored. The DVC member making the reservation would have to request this for you. It may depend on the time of year you are at WDW. I think they really try to honor the medical requests if they can.
Enjoy your trip!!!

I doubt there would be a problem getting first floor or elevator with a medical request, but you may also have to accept a handicap accessible room.

I have mobility issues including not doing stairs. When I make reservation for OKW I ask for first floor or elevator building for medical reasons. I've been requesting this now for about five years & have never had a problem. Your dad might want to consider renting an ECV (scooter) to make his trip & everyone else's trip easier.

I second the making a medical request for 1st floor or elevator building. Be sure the person you rent from does that when the reservation is made. You will probably need to mention it again at check in. If you would like to rent an ECV for him, call the resort ahead of time and get the number for CARE. It is a company that rents the carts and will bring it to OKW, so it is waiting for you when you check in. When you check out, you just leave it at Hospitality House (check in area), and give the front desk the key, and it's all taken care of. We had to do this two consecutive trips, and it was very easy and not at all expensive. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was about $200 for the week.

Thanks, everyone. I feel much more comfortable taking this approach. Also I will look into renting an ECV.

Make sure it is listed as a "medical request" or some similar wording. They are not guaranteed, but as close to as possible. We have been told multiple times that they fill the medical needs requests first and then the general requests for the same thing.
