There is nothing that I like better than an impromptu trip to WDW. In this case, my daughter has been accepted in the Disney Career Start Program which starts on 9/11/06. She will be working at one of the parks in a fast food location. We are flying down to shop and get her settled in and were able to snag ressies at OKW. I chose OKW because of the 2Q beds since I am traveling with both daughters. (not to mention the lower points)

OK- I am a BCV girl and have never stayed at OKW. Will I like it? Any particular area of the resort that I should request. 1st floor, 2nd floor?

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

(PS-The countdown is for our trip in October.)

It depends upon which amenities are importat to you. Being a condo style resort, OKW does not have room service or valet parking. The rooms are larger than anywhere else, the studios have two queen beds, instead of bed and sleeper sofa.

Personally, I'd recommend 2nd floor, as many first floor units are handicap acces (there are elevators in only 3 bldgs at OKW).

As far as location, request what is important to you..if being close to the restaurant/check-in area is important, request that...if you'd be happy being close to any bus stop (there are 5 within OKW) request that, there are 4 pools, you could request to be near one of those. I don;t think there is a "bad" locatin at OKW, just some that are more convenient, depending on circumstances...like whether you have a car, etc.

We've stayed at OKW several times and just love the resort. If I were you, I'd request a 1st floor room. Only a few building have elevators. Our 1st time there we were on the 3rd floor. We drive to WDW from TX, so we had LOTS of luggage, etc to carry from the suburban to the room. Unloading was more tiring than a day at the parks! We've stayed near a small pool and it was nice and quiet, close enough to walk over for a swim or a soak in the hottub and back to our rooms...sorry I can't remember our building #. We actually walked from OKW to DTD on that trip too....if I happen to remember the building #, I'll update you.
Have a great trip!

In the Unofficial Guide to WDW book, they list the pros and cons to each building. I personally like the "quiet" areas - building 13 is great for quiet yet still close to HH. It's a great resort.

Congrats to your daughter

Thanks to all that replied. I will keep this info in mind when we check in.

Ground floor studios may have an obstructed balcony view due to thick vegetation. I think you'll get a better view from a 2nd or 3rd floor but most bldgs don't have elevators if that's a concern.

As for no valet service, you don't really need it at OKW because you can park right outside your door. OKW does have bell service however, so if you get a 3rd floor, you can have them bring your luggage up to the room.

For room service, you can order pizza from POR :

Also, we just checked out of OKW on Aug 17 and we ordered from : http://www.giordanosflorida.com/default.htm (the Lake Buena Vista location delivers to your door at OKW). They're open until midnight and offer soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, dessert etc. We ordered one night at 11:15 pm and they were at our door by 11:55 pm.

Have a great stay and congrats to your dd :cheer2:

I would request first floor, you will be tired after working to get her settled in all day and will not feel like climbing up all the steps!!

OKW studio 1st floor - have a lousy view. if a good view is important to you then request the 2nd floor.

the steps at OKW aren't hard.

I request a lst floor - because mother at 84 years old can't handle the steps anymore.

the lst floor view are either overgrowth (privacy for the 1 bedroom units) - or next to air conditioning units or both.

the 2nd floor in the same building will have a beautiful view.

62-64 building have elevators.

you can request a view of water, golf or woods.

you can request to be near HH, pool or bus stop.

I like building 55 - it has a lovely view and is near both a quiet pool and a bus stop - but is about as far from HH as you can get.

I agree with some others and suggest you request a studio on the the 2 or 3 floor. Many of the ground floor studios have views almost completely hidden by the shrubbery.
We are folks that like to be close to the main pool, pool bar and food options, so for us, close to the HH is our favorite spot.
Have a great trip!
