OKW experts - tell me why I will love it!

I am sure I will be thrilled to stay @ OKW, especially after reading all of your posts. We were originally @ the BC because we had a party of 5 and did not want to cram into the moderate that would accomodate us. Valet parking, inside hallways etc is not important.
I just wanted to make sure that I would feel like I was in a Disney resort, and not like I have felt when we have rented condo's in Hilton Head and Myrtle beach in the past. We know that we are not doing this trip cheaply. I was looking for reassurance that I was going to be happy with what I was spending my money on. I think that I got that!!! I origonally posted on the resorts forum and it was suggested that I post this over here.
Thanks for your help, looking forward to our OKW stay!
I was not looking to cause any debate, just looking for information from those who know the place the best. Thanks again.

Classicpooh, you did not start any debate. Sometimes ANY thread about OKW seems to bring out a debate for NO reason!

Don't worry! I am sure you will be thrilled with your decision and once again, enjoy your trip!!!!!!!!

When you walk out of your 2 bedroom unit... take a deep breath, and all the stress's of life disapear... POOF

really truely...

Enjoy!

Get over it Dee, the OP simply asked why we liked OKW. There is no debate here. It is simply answering what is good about OKW.
Then ridiculous and irrelevant things should not be brought up like the cost of the staffing for room service being the reason why centrally located resorts are more expensive; or the implication that OKW is a different resort from all other WDW resorts and in a class all of it's own.
To the OP,
Personally I think you would be better off sticking with BC and just moving to the Villas instead of a regular room. Much nicer resort that is located in a fantastic location to parks, dining etc and without a doubt has the nicest pool on property.

~Laid back feel
~Generally a good view from every unit
~Walkway to DTD
~Boat to DTD
~Park near your unit
~Biggest units in terms of size
~Nice to walk around
~Quiet pools are very nice
~Gurgling Suitcase bar very cute
~ALWAYS get a "welcome home"

You know, that's true. How does that work? OKW magic no doubt.

(I've stayed at BCV and would say it is EQUALLY magic so no hard feelings OK???)

Classicpooh, don't worry about OKW; you have made a great decision and you will not be unhappy with your stay.

Here we go again.....................:(

Sheesh, can we move all the debate about which resort is better to another thread? (Or better yet, to the debate board!)

The OP asked what is nice about OKW. I'd say that with a party of 6, you will really enjoy the spaciousness of the living room! An OKW 1 bedroom is bigger than my 3 bedroom house, and most of that space is the living/dining areas!

OKW also has the largest patio area of any of the DVC units. This will be a plus of the 6 of you decide to relax outside.

I loved the little boat that takes you to DD.

Some (but not all) rooms have great views of the water. Do some research on which buildings to request, if you'd like a water view. OKW has a lot of lovely garden areas. There is also golf at OKW, if you like that.

I'm a big BWV fan, and have stayed both there and at OKW If it were just DH & I, I'd prefer BWV or BCV. However, with 4 or more people, I think the extra space at OKW would be really helpful.

As for staying onsite versus offsite , there is just no comparison!

Not to worry! You will DEFINITELY feel the Disney magic.

This opinion is, as with most issues dealing with DVC, very subjective.
We find OKW to definitely have more of the "Diseny feel" of staying in an onsite resort vs a non Disney resort on hotel blvd, or totally offsite. But we also find OKW to be the resot that offers the least amount of disney magic/disney feeling, from any of the WDW resorts. And we have stayed in the vast majority of WDW resorts, many, many times.

That is your opinion. I disagree with your statement. I find that OKW DOES have that wonderful Disney Magic!

Gotta agree with that!! :) Nothing but magic from check-in to check-out!! "Living" at Disney instead of just being a hotel guest at a non-DVC resort....gotta love it.

Somehow this thread has strayed. The OP was asking why she'd love the OKW, not why she should change to another resort to experience more of the magic.

For what it's worth, we've also been to WDW multiple times (28 in 12 years), and have stayed at all resorts except SoG, GF and PC. Each is special in its own way. Each has its own brand of magic. It's not only found at resorts that are walking distance to the parks, or that have luxury amenities.

But..back to the original question! My then-15-year-old son wrote a great article (hey, I'm his mom..I can say this! :) ) about why our family loves the Old Key West:

You Don't Have to Be Old to Love Old Key West

classicpooh, I hope this helps!

Dotti

Wonderful reading, Dotti! Thank you for the link. That says it all and says it fantastically! BTW, your son DID write a great article, and I am not his mom! Good job!

I have also stayed in most all of the WDW resorts (since the year it opened) and DVC resorts (since the late 90's) many, many times and find that all of them have "Disney Magic" in one way or another and none less or more than another (including HH and VB). I think the CMs at all resorts are the main factor in getting you to feel the "Disney Magic" and certainly OKW's CMs go out of their way from the first "Welcome Home" at the guard house to the front desk and mousekeeping staff. OKW has an understated luxurious feel with its large rooms, balconies and beautifully landscaped grounds. We love it there (as we do all WDW and DVC resorts) and highly recommend it to the OP.

Dotti - What a great article your son wrote! It summarizes so well how my 18 yr. old feels about OKW. We have been members since '94, and we also own at BWV, VB and HH, but this year when he asked to take a group of four friends with him for a graduation trip to WDW, guess where he asked that I book the villa? Yep, OKW! It really is our "Home Away from Home".

All of the reasons posted so far are very good. But I think the most important reason DVC members LOVE OKW is they may get a chance to meet the legend Richyams there some day.

:happy2: Nick

I love OKW for the size of the rooms and the quietness. Not to mention parking right in front of our room

I usually visit around Holoween or the first two weeks of December.....for anyone wishing to increase their odds.
