My parents will be joining us for part of our trip to OKW. Due to health problems, my father can't walk or see well. (enough to get around in a limited capacity) So, I thought maybe I should request either first floor or a building with an elevator. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I would suggest a first floor ressie, since that would probably be easier for your dad than trying to find the elevator, and make it work correctly. You would also have a better chance of having your request met, since every building has a first floor! Are you reserving a 2 bedroom villa? It would be best, probably, since you would be right next door to your parents. Be sure to note that your want first floor due to medical reasons. ;)

Hi,

The last 3 trips we had to OKW we stayed in bldg# 62 & 64 they are all close to HH and all have elevators!

Have a great time, OKW is the best!

Bldg 63 also has an elevator. If you father needs a wheelchair, the resort sometimes has them available, first come - first served, for free. You just have to leave a deposit for the wheelchair that is refunded when you return the chair.

Thanks for all the great info. Since I booked my parents' flights today, I'm pretty confident that they will make the trip. I've already reserved a 2 bedroom Lock-off but need to call back about the location. I also thought about renting a wheel chair for him since he will need it for a few days. I can't believe how much more I have to think about now! (just when I thought I had our trips down to a science..... :D )

Background: My parents have never been to Orlando, let alone Disney. My dad's dream is to ride the monorail with my youngest son (we're staying at the Contemporary for two nights.......a surprise that my parents don't know about) My hope is to at least show them some of Magic Kingdom (especially IASW - since they saw that at the World's Fair at its debut) and Epcot. I know he can handle the evenings there..........but it would most likely get too hot for him to spend the afternoon anywhere except near the pool or his air conditioned room. I know he will be very comfortable at OKW. I have only stayed in a studio but have read that the two bedrooms are quite spacious.

The OKLW 2 BRS are VERY spacious, and I am sure he'd be very happy relaxing in the room or by one of the pools at OKW.

Either a first floor room or being iin the building with the elevtors would probably work. Make sure you call back and add to your reservation that there is a medical reason for the need for a first floor or elevator building.

I would suggest renting either a WC or scooter for the entire trip, rather than just renting at the parks. There is a lot of walking to get to the parks, more than some people realize, and the resorts themselves can require a lot of walking. I think there is a place called 1-800-scooter that will drop it off and pick it up right at the hotel. It's worth a call.

The hotel-provided WCs are nice if you can get one. They are first come, first seve though, so you're taking a chance at there not being one available.

The more I think about it, I will probably rent a wheel chair for the entire Orlando portion. You are right - just getting into the parks and around the resort is more walking than he is capable of. I wish he could see well enough to use the ECV. (his peripheral vision is very bad) That would not be a pretty picture  Too bad they don't make two person ECV's. My mom could do all the driving, just like she does in real life! LOL
