OKW DVC flag "SHREDDED" at hospitality center!

As I understand it, the family checked out, and left the room at which time it was cleand by housekeeping.

Subsequently, the family came back and their keys still worked so they "re-used" the room.

That's how I read it anyway.
Yes, that's exactly what happened. But the people were very nice about it. They even offered us to come in and sit down while they finished getting ready to leave again. They truly thought they had the room until 11:00. Which they did, had they not already checked out and vacated the room. Oh well!

That is so rude!! I can't believe they came back after they checked out! Didn't they realize that the room had been cleaned for the next guests? What they thought "let us just take a few showers and use all the towels"??? What a rude family. It was OKW's fault that the keys still worked, but theirs for coming back in the first place.

It is pretty amazing that these people came back & used the room after check-out!

However, I don't think the problem was how OKW handled the keys. My understanding is that with most hotel locks, what makes a key stop working is that the new key is inserted into the lock. Until a new key is inserted, the old one will typically keep working. The locks on hotel doors generally have no way to "communicate" with the front desk; the only way the lock "knows" that a key is no longer valid is by having a new key inserted.

Or perhaps having some common sense would help. This was an obvious flag problem, pretty hard to miss in my opinion, but I must pay more attention to detail than the average owner.
Oh, I don't know that having common sense is the issue here. The issue is that the maintenance problems bother some more than others, and certainly no one can argue that you aren't correct in wanting obvious problems rectified. For me, I'm less inclined to worry about minor issues with a vacation home than I am poor grammar in every day speaking and writing. Overuse of idioms, improper syntax, run on sentences, incorrect punctuation, and abysmal spelling make me grit my teeth. I figure folks simply don't pay enough attention to detail. . .they just don't seem to care. To me, such miscues indicate a waste of a good education; then again, I must pay more attention to detail than the average person when it comes to communicating with others. ;)

House keeping seems to be becoming a big issue as far as DVC resorts are concerned. I can just about always locate a thread that deals with dirty rooms on the boards.
When we stayed at OKW I did not notice anything except maybe a broken curtain rod, but then that was also for our first two trips to the world and my mind was focused on the my family and our vacation rather than the accomodations. The last two years we stayed at BCV and this recent visit in Feb was a shock. Dirty dyper in the trash, dirty towels in the jacuzzi, the bed unmade, etc. The room was later cleaned, but even then I noticed the floor was never moped, stains on the furniture, spotty dishes and silverware, and yes layers of dust on top of the washer/dryer/fridge/TV/etc. Glad I brought slippers so my feet were not constantly treading on months/years worth of filth.
For the most part I can look past a not-so-tidy room, but I have to agree that when you buy into DVC you at least expect a clean room.

Of course, we had a great time all 4 times we visited the world and our next trip is already being planned. A dirty room can't kill my magic!!!

Seriously though, what else can be done to get management to step up their efforts to make sure the staff is doing their job? Does anyone think we could get enough people together that have had the same experience and maybe get a petition going? We already did the "call the manager" and "fill out the survey" routes, but I do not think that will do much for future visits.

I have to ask :rotfl: I also get distracted by extremely poor grammar and spelling, and I don't like gum on the carpet, either :goodvibes But I guess overall I probably overlook alot of things and just wish they were better. I am looking forward to our first "home stay" and I hope that it won't be too bad as we are bringing my sister.

I think I will be inspired to do my part and report things that need to be fixed.

My guess is that if you wanted to come across as a rude and arrogant person you do a great job! ;)

I don't know about that. What happens when someone puts their key in the wrong door. For example an excited child, trying to beat their syblings puts their key in the wrong door, and the little red light lights up, or the family that moved during a single vacation to a new suit uses the wrong (older key) in the same door?

We'll since I've done all this, I can tell you, that doesn't switch the door.

Perhaps, the insertion of a new properly coded key would deactivate the old key. But when our keys had to be re-issued in July last year, all 5 new keys worked, and so did all 5 original keys work. That might be 'fun' to try out.........

Any elctronic, card activated lock experts out there?

I also saw it. At SSR there flag also was ripped. There it no need for this.

(The truely sad thing, is that in proofreading my post, only two of the myriad of errors were intentional, sigh........)

Boy, I either live a charmed life and always get a really nice room or I have lower standards than everyone else.

I would continue to advise that if you have a problem with housekeeping or maintenance, take care of it while you are there.

In the case of the flag, I probably wouldn't have noticed it, but if I had, I'd have probably mentioned to someone at OKW's front desk so they could take it down.

Of course, then they'd get in trouble for not having the OKW flag flying, but I guess then the decision is "which is worse...no flag or a tattered flag?"

Such serious decisions to be made on vacation!!! ;)

As stated in my original post this is the DVC flag that is ripped not the OKW flag or the USA flag. I would post the picture if someone can help me figure out how...apparently the resolution on my digital camers is too high to post on these boards and I can't seem to make it small enough in file size.

**I am unable to post my picture...if someone can help I would appreciate it!**

Here's one of the photos, thank you Debbie! :thumbsup2

It may seem silly to complain about this minor issue, but I agreee with JerJan. It makes me really sad to see things like this in WDW.

It seems that they just don't have the attention to detail that they did in years past. For example: We were at the Boardwalk last week, and there were a lot of the small light bulbs burnt out along the pier. It's small details that attracted me to WDW and DVC. Did it spoil my vacation? No. But neglect of the little things that you are used to does take away a little bit of the magic.

That photo of the DVC flag looks sloppy. At th every least, someoneshould have cut off the frayed parts.

Having seen your picture I can tell you I expected a lot worse from the description. One nice windy day can tatter a flag a lot worse than that. I know because we go through three or four flags every summer at our BSA camp. As far as your room condition, if it was as poor as you stated I would have demanded to be relocated, those conditions are unacceptable.
Although it would be extremly difficult for some, I'm sure there are a few OKW owners out there that would be able to make the owners meeting, the dates are posted in the newslettewr and on the web page. SSR being new, us "newbies" don't see these problems, at least I have yet to encounter any. It's one thing to be picky, but I think we all agree for the money we spend we deserve a clean, well kept room, isn't this what the dues are for.
