Will be leaving for WDW on 8/14 for an OKW stay. We really wanted to stay at BCV (our home resort) but made the decision to go so late that I think we were lucky to get all our nights at a DVC resort. After reading more about OKW we're excited about our first stay. We're just as excited to be going back to WDW for our 2nd stay this summer.

We've expressed some room preferences (NS, non-HC. not 1st floor) but no specific room numbers or building(s). Any pros and cons from you OKW pros that we might want to take into account?

Ya, try to move to BWV! (just joking!!!!!!)

My suggestions would be:

1. Don't put too many preferences. You already have three so you have limited your alternatives. If I were you, I would stick with those and then see what they come up with when you arrive. Check the map and see. If you don't like it, then ask them to search for another.

2. We stayed in one of the buildings on the river last May, and we were accosted with biting flies. That nice big porch was useless to us because of them. Don't know if it was the season, the stagnant water, the location? Not sure, but will never stay on the river again.

I think the requests you have already made will be fine.

There are three types of view at the resort- Golf Course, Water and Woods. I can assure you there is no stagnant water around the buidlings at OKW (just as there is none around any of the other resorts). There are certainly times of the year (and times of the day) when some insect repellant might be desired at WDW in general, but there are no special considerations needed for OKW in that regard.

Here is some <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1251562#post1251562">more OKW information </a> that may be of interest to you.

Have a great trip!

I think your requests are fine. Which building is not as important as some of the amenities. You have covered that with the non-smoking, no HC etc. I think when you get too specific, you shoot yourself in the foot and insure not getting the things that are the most important to you. We usually request non-smoking and an "area" like South Point. We do this to ensure we get a room with the extra entrance to the bathroom, if we have a need for it on a specific trip. This next trip, we only requested non-smoking, since we will have 4 of us in a 2 bedroom, and no real need for the extra door.

If being close to the restauarant, main pool, Community Hall, boat dock etc is important to you, you might want to request a building close to the front of the resort and near the main hub. OKW is a very large resort and some of the buildings can be quite a distance away which would require a fairly lengthy walk, driving your car or hopping on a bus to get to the restaurant, community hall activities etc. Also if having an elevator is important to you there are only 3 or 4 buildings that have elevators.

Just got back form OKW on 8/1/03. Had a great time. Had a nice 1BR, #2721. It's in the building right next to the bus stop on Peninsular Road, after you pass the main check-in etc area. The only thing I didn't like is that it's a bit of a walk to the main pool. I prefer being near a quiet pool, especially since they do that beach party thing at the main pool, and i found it to be a little noisy for my taste, although the kids who were at the pool seemed to be really enjoying it. The DJ was very good, playing all kinds of "beachy" songs...I just prefer it to be a little quieter at the pool.

Thanks to all who responded. Doc, your link is very useful. When I saw the map of the resort, my concern is that it is so spread out. I'm not sure what my wife's preferences will be. I think being closer to a bus stop might be important to her. I think for my daughter, being closer to the main pool might be a good thing. I'll have to look at the map more closely
