OKW attractive home resort due to lower points

How does one go about trying to see if there are OKW points available through Disney as an add on? Anyone know how much per point and how do they work it..Use year, closing costs, etc?

Disney has a ton of OKW points available. You can add-on for $96/point, and the contract is good through 2057.

Very good! Do they match up your user year when you buy through them? Also, are there closing costs for add ons?

That beats the heck out of GMAC :)

We've stayed at every DVC on property but SSR (not interested) will never stay anywhere but OKW. Love all the pros - see no cons - our rooms have been cleaner and more appealing there than our WLV, BCV and BWV - sure don't miss the long hallways.

Just our opinion - member since 1996 and our first stay was 1993.

When I bought in 1999, OKW and BWV were the only choices at WDW. I liked both. I bought BWV because I wanted that 11 month advantage for early December. Now that boardwalk view is guaranteed, I'm even more glad I chose it. I used to do a OKW 1 bedroom in May, never had a problem at 7 months.

Excellent point. I don't need to own at OKW in order to book a 1-BR at the 7-mo mark. I can still take advantage of the point-saving large rooms at OKW without having to own there.

I guess that is true, didnt think of it that way. Not ready for an add on yet, but maybe someday.

We originally toured BWV in 2000, but when we came to sign we stayed at OKW, asked immediately if OKW points were available, they were, we signed at OKW, and no regrets!

With three kids -- two of which are now college boys (men?) -- I would not enjoy the tighter quarters of the smaller 2-BR accommodations in the other resorts. :crowded: We also really like the at-the-door parking.

When DH and I travel alone, or when we are less than the full crowd, we have tried other DVC resorts and enjoyed it. But OKW is still our "home." ::yes::

We have just come home from our very first trip to WDW, and half way through the trip we took the tour, they tried very hard to get us to buy SSR, or AK, but thanks to these boards I liked the idea of OKW. I asked on the off chance, and was grudgingly told it was available for the full 50 years, but I couldn't go to see it or view a room!

I had shown my DH the dreams book and he liked what he saw, but I really wasn't expecting him to buy in without seeing it, but after seeing the room sizes and points chart that is what he did! We have just bought 200 points!:woohoo: The sales lady was good, but really didn't want us to buy there instead of the other two places.

I don't know if it was the right thing to do but he seems happy with the idea, and was even talking about adding on already.

What was the cost per point? Thanks. I've been thinking of buying my first points at OKW. Seems like a great place at a better price!

Does anyone know how many Grand Villa's are at OKW vs SSR?

99% of the time, I will NOT need one but for 2010 I need one, and am curious where it will be easier to get one at the 11 month window. (Which I am figuring I have to have)

OKW has 27 GVs.

Carlbarry, I believe we are paying $96 a point for OKW, and with the incentives AKV is $94, so my guide kept trying to point out that this was better value, as if I didn't know that OKW is a lot bigger and costs less points per night.

We love OKW as well as SSR.

OKW for the size of the room and SSR for the location.

Of course, that is total opposite then most but it is what works for us.

I hear that a lot. If you mean you like the location across from DTD, then fine; otherwise, SSR really doesn't have that great of a location.

SSR Weakness: Most distant of all Disney resorts from the theme parks

We find the resort remote from the theme parks with restricted transportation options.

It is all a matter of choice I guess.

On the Dis you will hear of people darn near giving away their first born to own/stay at BCV and I really don't plan to stay there ever again. Just not a comfortable place IMHO.

But that is what is great about DVC. Something for almost anyone.

I think OKW offers the best overall value - both as a stay and as a home resort. If cost is a driving factor you can buy resale for fairly cheap, points go a long way, and dues are low. If, additionally, you love the resort, you really can't go wrong.

What are my chances of snagging a GV in March at OKW? I just found out I am going to orlando for a conference and will be with 3 other girls. I would love to stay in a GV but SSR is just to darn expensive to do that. But OKW, I can swing.

Kristine

Not going to happen. First of all, you are only 5 months out. 2nd, Easter is in March this year so Spring breaks are heavily scheduled both before and after in March. You might be able to snag a couple of 2 bedrooms.
