We just changed our trip because my sis and family decided they wanted to join us. Instead of going "HOME" to VWL 11/28-12/3, we are staying at OKW in a 2 bedroom and a studio. Can anyone tell me how the resort is decorated for the Holidays, we wanted VWL because of the beautiful Christmas decorations, fireplace, big tree, etc., how does OKW compare, and can you walk to MGM or Epcot from OKW??

thanks

I cannot answer about Christmas decorations as I have not been there then, but as far as walking to any Parks, you will not be able to. OKW is located near Port Orleans. You will need to either take the bus or use your own car. You can take the boat to Downtown Disney and there is a path to walk to Downtown Disney, although the boat ride is really very pleasant.

Have a wonderful holiday trip.

no OKW does not have the decorations of WL/VWL.

it does have a nice tree in the lobby - and I think one also in the entrance of Oliva's and the gift store.

It also has the dolphin in decorations

While nothing can compare, IMO, to the Christmas feeling at WL, particularly in the Lobby, OKW is none too shabby. We split a stay in Dec. '01 between BWV and OKW, and while the Xmas decor in BWV was beautiful as well, we adored the spacious feeling of OKW. If you have lots of family joining you, you'll probably really enjoy the bit of extra space and the fewer points you'll be spending for it.

Just make it a point to go visit WL at some point in your trip, and you'll get to enjoy it, too.

Have a great time!

OKW are condo type units, 2 and 3 stories high, unlike the WL and the WLV that are hotels; therefore, there isn't really a central area that everyone has easy access too which means little in the way on decorations. You can not walk to any of the parks from OKW, you can walk to DD however.

Thanks - I'm kind of disapointed that we will not be at VWL, but with 9 of us, I think OKW is the better choice anyway. Plus the hubbys are happy about being near the golf course, guess by seeing it daily, they think they are golfing daily!!!;) We will definately make it over to the VWL. The guide at MS this morning thought the outside of the resort was decorated as well? Like the roads, etc. Guess we will just wait an see, we don't have a car so we will be relying on the bus system, we didn't mind it when we stayed there in November, so hopefully it won't be an issue. Also the guide was happy to put in my requests?? Actually she asked if I had any? All I wanted was non-smoking, upper unit, then I added near the turtle pond area? We will see what we get!

Each resort, including OKW, has unique decorations. You'll find a beautiful tree, wreaths and swags of garland with pretty ornaments with a "sea" motif.

The resort decorations are in and around the Hospitality center.

What we, and many guests do, is bring decorations for the units. You'll see lights strung on balconies (remember to bring an extension cord), and occassionally you'll spot a tree that's been set up by a guest in their room. :D

While nothing compares to the holiday decor at VWL, they do a nice job at OKW.

you know I kinda of think that each bus stop is decorated too - but I am just not sure about that..........

I was just there this past Christmas spiceycat, and neither myself or DD recall seeing decorations at the bus stops.

All of the street lamps are decorated through the resort, in addition to the lobby area, store, Olivia's and pool area.

Since there is no expansive central lobby, like at WL, VWL or GF, the tree is not as memorable, but still has a unique feel, consistent with the theme of the resort.

I'm sure you'll all have a great time!

Enjoy!

When we go around christmas time we decorate the OKW apartment ourselves , along with quite a few other quest. I usually bring a few boxes of lights and decorate the front and the balcony.

We were there last Thanksgiving when the Tractor Trailer pulled up and unloaded enough decorations to decorate an entire city it seemed. It was fun to watch them get started and then the next day see the finished product - like magic!!

Here is a picture taken in early December last year outside of Olivia's. I don't have one of the tree. It's definitly like not VWL or Grand Floridian....

The whole lobby area/waterfront is decorated. They've got a tree and a gingerbread display like every other resort.

It's lots of fun to bring along some decorations. As mentioned, many people string lights along their balcones and/or windows. This really livens up the whole resort.

If the guys love golf, I think they'll love OKW!
