I just returned home earlier this evening & can even find my notebook :)! The annual meeting consisted of three parts: the Board of Director's meeting; the Member's Annual Meeting; & the General Session. The first two as Doc mentioned in his SSR notes were very scripted.

Lawrence Smith (LS) is the new DVC Treasurer. The presentation of the meeting was different this year - thanks to DVC Marketing - so Lawrence didn't have as much information or as many details to present as the previous DVC Treasurer had in the past. I just commented to my husband that we received a lot less details this year like what improvements are being made throughout OKW.

In his budget presentation LS mentioned the operating budget included increases to cover such items as the concierge front desk, worker's compensation, property insurance & ad valorem taxes. (We knew last year that the 2005 actual tax bill was higher than the proposed budget). In the budget Q&A a member asked about the 9.8% increase. LS mentioned the service enhancements like the concierge front desk in the lobby & additional CMs working the front desk to minimize guests wait times. He also mentioned the increase in workers comp & property & casualty insurance. A member (I don't remember if it was the same one or not) said she is a FL resident & her property insurance increased 50% this year, & she asked what percent OKW's increased. Answer was 40%.

Regarding the increase in worker's comp insurance, a member asked about CM training. Sonya, the GM of OKW (& SSR), said CMs are continually being trained &/or reminded of safety issues on a daily basis. She gave the example of soft tissue exercises for Housekeeping CMs. She said the housekeepers do stretching exercises every day. She did add that OKW did have a decrease in worker's comp incidences last year.

The General Session was called "It's an Exciting Time at Disney." Jim Lewis said he had recently had an opportunity to meet with Bob Iger, the new CEO of Disney. Iger sees three focuses for the company: creativity & innovation; application of technology; & globalization (ex. Hong Kong DL; the Happiest Celebration on Earth).

Jim said DVC now has 95,000+ member families from 100 countries. That number is expected to reach 100,000 member families in 2006. 2006 will be the 15th anniversary of DVC.

Member perks: the continuation of the AP at WDW & DL; the DVC discount at disneyshopping.com (usually 10%, but it will be 20% for one purchase transaction in December); increased discount for MK Tours (10% to 20%); exclusive member merchandise through the WDW Florist; 2005 portfoliio enhancements including new additions to the concierge collection.

Website functionality: JL admitted that "We are behind." Member will be able to pay dues online by the end of this calendar year. By spring members will be able to update their address & pay loans online. And by this time next year members will be able to bank vacation points.

Member communication Enhancements: Vacation Magic has a new design; VM email update should debut in December replacing Clubhouse; a new Portable Perks; & coming soon a pre-arrival email with information (what exactly, I do not know!).

Member Events included Spring Swing with the Atlanta Braves; the Summer Block Parties at PI; Bubbles & Brunch; Merry Member Mixers in December; the 2005 member's crusie & the upcoming 2006 member's cruise.

Sharing the Best Kept Secret includes the ABC Christmas Parade with a segment on DVC with a cameo appeareance by Star Jones; the DVC membership as a first palce prize for America's Funniest Videos; the new Hats Off TV commercials for the central FL & southern CA markets; & an updated segment for hte DVC channel on the WDW TV.

Around our Neighborhood: JL & Sonya mentioned several industry awards & recognitions given to DVC - Market Metrics, magazine reader's surveys, etc. Sonya cited the condo surveys - 95% overall satisfaction (very good &/or excellent); 92% satisfaction (very good &/or excellent) for Member Services & 90% satisfaction (very good &/or excellent) for accounting.

Hurricane Updates: Sonya said Vero Beach was hit pretty hard & that 95% of the repairs are now complete. Someone later asked about the VB assessment of 50 cents per point in the budget. LS said that assessment is not needed. The info came out after the budget notice was sent to members. Sonya also thanked members for their kind calls, emails, etc. of concern about the CMs affected by the hurricanes.

Other DVC News:
*SSR phase 2 complete, phase 3 well unerway & expected to be complete in 2007; a new dining option aded to sSSR - Turf Club Bar & Grill

Work at the OKW Resort in 2005 included the slide (they also resurfaces the pool & sauna, refurbished the dolphin features & painted the lighthouse); replaced the shade deck at Rurle Pond; new bed pillows; upgraded mattresses (Sonya & I had a chat about being short & getting onto the bed :) ); replacement of patio furniture. 2006 work around OKW includes replacing/refurbishing the AC at the Hospitality House; work on the GV floors; exteriors of building 13, 14, 47 & 48; roof flashing; continuation of pavement resurfiacing & restripping (shouldbe finished by January); etc.

You Asked We Listened: AP discounts, website functionality & member updates.

Special Announcement was the Disney Dining Plan which can be booked through MS beginning in early January for stay beginning in April.

The Q& A session was pretty mild this year compared to some previous years! Questions & comments included additional/different options for booking the member cruise; FL residents & the AP discounts; DVC's policy of renting to non-members during peak times; kudos to DVC CMs, etc.

Thanks, JudithM!!! Great report. :)

Thanks, Judith. I wish I would make it to one of these meetings one year, honestly the thoought never dawns on me until a week or so before. I appreciate all of the information.

Were dates or other details mentioned for the Braves event? I assume it would be at the beginning of Spring Training? thanks for the update!

Thank you for that great report. I feel like I was there! :flower:

That is almost exactly like the run down of our meeting went as well. With the exception of the OKW refurbs and such.

Most of the common items between meetings tend to follow the same script. They are scripted so the suits know they fulfill the legal Ps & Qs. The only real variance is in resort specific items and the membe Q & A.
