I submit that the baby boomers have set the pace for societal developments and that they will continue to set it for many years to come.

I was born in 1945, and therefore have always been lucky enough to be right ahead of the baby boom bulge (Baby boom = 1946-1964 births).

What is it that Disney loving baby boomers want? I think they want extended Florida winter stays in spacious homelike affordable properties. They want to park their cars near their accomodations. They want easy access for drop in visitors and family. They do not want overpriced, hyperactive, highrises. They have done the parks over and over and want only occasional but easy access. They want beautiful and spacious, lushly landscaped properties to move around in and to be proud of.

That sounds a lot like OKW and SSR. :teacher:

1958, turning 50 next week. Love OKW!

WOW I HAD NO IDEA I WAS A BABY BOOMER!!!! I was born in 1962. For that matter so is my dh..he was born in 64. I always learn so much on these boards. :rotfl:

I'm at the other end of the baby boom, born in '64, and I love OKW & SSR as well! I do like staying at the hotel-style DVC properties, but OKW & SSR are most definitely my favorites. Oh...and HH too!

My DH and I are right after the baby boom (65 and 66). This post is right what we were looking for. We love BWV and VWL but the staple for us is SSR. We like option of the hotel feel but if we had to choose one type for long term staying it would be the OKW and SSR model

OKW always did feel like a retirement village to me!

Being stuck here in New Hampshire, I also have had thoughts of buying enough points to spend Jan. and Feb. at, possibly, SSR with a week or two at Vero thrown in. I'm hoping that there are enough owners at ALL the DVCs wanting to do this. Not just OKW and SSR. Because if SSR turns into the old folks home down the road twenty years from now, which it certainly is not now, I'll be the first one selling all my points and going elsewhere!! How depressing!!:rotfl2:

This dead center ('54) Disney loving baby boomer wants VWL!
I don't think those added years will make me want anything different.
Old dog...no new tricks, that's me!:thumbsup2

If SSR is so great, then why is it that the developer points that you get for buying at AKV can only be used at SSR? Why is it that when Pop Century gets overbooked they put people in SSR?

I'll tell you why. It's because most baby boomers actually don't want to even see their car after they arrive. They want to walk down to the lobby and get a newspaper or a drink. They want ultra-easy access to the parks, often for the great dining at EPCOT.

OKW has the advantage of being really cheap and having extra-large rooms. SSR is pretty, but lots of places are. It has no advantages for a WDW trip.

SSR and OKW may be the future of the Disney Vacation Club, but only because it's cheaper to build a resort with no amenities.

Rich people have been buying second homes in Naples for years. Do they buy units in low-slung apartments or apartments in high-rise buildings? Personally, I'd rather do what the rich people are doing.

We're a couple of babyboomers that prefer SSR over the Epcot resorts. We enjoy the peace, quiet, laid back atmosphere of SSR & OKW and easy access to DTD. I'd rather stay at a resort that doesn't share bus service with several other resorts.

:thumbsup2 Amen.

DH and I are mid-baby boomers.....'55s, that bought at BWV and have no intention of ever staying there. Neither one of us wants to feel like we're in a hotel or apartment when we're supposed to be at our second home. OKW lets us feel like we're in a townhouse community.....in other words "HOME."

It's not like any of the other DVC's were built with amenities. They just share the ones that came with the hotel part of the resort. Since when do the rich like to share w/ common folk?:confused3

I really don't care how the amenities got there!

And for what it's worth, I'd like to stay at OKW at some point. BUT, I have to say that I look at myself as giving up something in exchange for bargain-basement, large rooms. I think most people view it the same way (although I am aware many would pay extra for the "away from it all" atmosphere).

We aren't baby boomers but we like the fact we can have our car close. We have two small boys and I am not tackling the bus with a stroller and two in tow.

I'm a Gen. Xer that love SSR. I don't mind staying at the other resorts to try them out, but SSR is "home".

I'm from that first wave of "boomers", and yes, I do prefer OKW!!! Of course, I am a bit partial to AKV as well for the quiet of watching the animals.

When dh and I joined DVC last December, we chose AKV over SSR because I love the hotel part of it all. My first trip to WDW was 3 years ago, we stayed at POFQ, and I didn't like the whole outside entrance, which was one of the reasons I didn't chose SSR (who can resist the Savanna view), yes it is a beautiful resort, but like another person mentioned there are many beautiful resorts....bottom line is, everyone has their preference, and what may be perfect for one, may not be for another. With adding on to AKV we received a 5 night stay at SSR or AKV, we chose SSR. I would love to vacation at every DVC resort, to see what each offer in their own way....and to find out where my future add-on will be.
