We're heading down to WDW and our first stay at OKW on December 31st (we have only stayed at VLW before).

This is probably a stupid question, but can you walk from OKW to Downtown Disney?

yes, you can. But we have never done it. I have heard if you are in the back portion the walk is not very long maybe 15/20 minutes, but would be considerably longer if you were in a villa near the font. It is a large spread out resort. We usually take the trumbo Ferry and I think it takes about 20 minutes. Sorry if I am not much help.

Thanks for the response. I know we're going to one of the hotels for New Year Eve dinner and know that we'll probaby have to transfer buses at DTD. I would prefer to walk if possible rather than wait twice for a bus.

We walked from OKW Bldg #55 back in 2003, the walkway wasn't lit, we lost the path and ended up walking across the golf course. Probably not the best choice for nighttime. :confused3

I created this view quite awhile ago but it's worth showing again.

You catch the path just on the other side of the waterway, near building 55. It curves around and ends up on the WestSide of DD. It's the RED line in the satellite image.

SSR also goes to DD. The two lines are shown approximately by the Quiet Pool area. The Violet line goes to DD, and the Yellow line connects to the OKW path and goes to the WestSide.

I did some reports back in 2001. From the start of the path at OKW it's 0.93 miles long to the water tower near House of Blues.

Here's a link to the old report. Note the links to photos no longer work.

Nice walk during the day but not all of the path is lighted so i would call a cab after dinner. Probably no more than $10, incl. tip to get from DTD to OKW. Hope you love OKW as much as I do!

Take the boat one way and the bus the other. I wouldn't take the path late at night.

BTW, we will be checking into OKW on the 31st too, and staying until the 10th. You might want to join the DIS/DVC meet we are planning for Jan. 6th at VWL Iron Spike room. Check here for the meet thread.

Wow! Goes to show how little I know. I forgot all about a boat to DTD. This will be our first stay at OKW since we acquired our whopping 25 pt contract (it was a deal too good to refuse).

Just did the walk this week - took me about 12 minutes but I am a speedy walker!

Don't take it after dusk, please, for your safety - take a boat/bus back to the resort. The path is marked as 'closed at dusk' but I don't think that they can truly close it.

The boat is pretty fast, even though it does stop first at SSR....that does not slow things down much. I have not taken the path, but DH has; he is in agreement that taking it after dusk is not a great idea.

Starting to get very excited about this New Year's Eve trip. I'm glad we're going to be so close to a "transportation hub" like DTD. This is meant to be a very laid back trip. We are not going to any of the parks on NYE and have dinner reservations at Boma. I am not using a rental car because I really intend on "celebrating!"

We went to Epcot for NYE 1999/2000 and it was so much fun, we decided to do that again this year. The bus back to OKW from Epcot wont be so much fun, but, hey, we deal with it.

We walk it several times a trip (actually DH walks I ride my ECV). It has improved over the years. Better, more even pavement but no lights. There is a sign that says the path is closed dusk to dawn.
