We'll be in WDW in a couple weeks with my Mother who, because of a bad hip, can't stand for long periods or walk long distances. We're renting an ECV for her and have requested a 1st floor 1br at OKW so she won't have to climb stairs. The reservation shows our request for the 1st floor for "Medical Reasons".

We don't necessarily need, nor did we request, a HA room. Just out of curiosity, if we do get one, can anyone tell me what's the difference between a HA room and a 'regular' one at OKW? Thanks!

We are DVC members at OKW. I hope you enjoy our home resort.

The fully wheelchair accessible DVC rooms have the same general layout as the non HA rooms.
They have sinks in the bathroom and kitchen that a wheelchair user can roll up under to use. They also have grab bars by the toilet and a raised seat toilet. There is a roll in shower in the master bath; the shower doesn't have a door. It has a shower curtain, a flat floor so you could roll a wheelchair in or step in without having to step over anything. It also has a fold down seat in the shower and a handheld shower head that can be attached to the wall. The bed is a little bit lower (about 5-6 inches lower) to make it easier to transfer from a wheelchair to the bed. There is still a whirlpool tub and sink in the room between the master bedroom and master bath. The closet has half the hanging bar at the "usual" height and half is at a lower height so it can be used by someone in a wheelchair.

Sue, thanks for your reply. That's just the info I was looking for.

BTW, we own at the BCV, but we thought OKW would be easier for my mother to navigate. It should be easier for her since we can park outside our room and she won't have to climb stairs. Also we plan on letting her 'practice' driving the ECV we've rented for her on the walkways around the resort before we let her loose in the parks.

Thanks again!
