Which buildings are best to be in as far as view, convenience? Also, which buildings have been refurbed?

What size unit are you in? If you are in a 1,2 or 3 bedroom villa, most have spectacular views no matter where it's located. If you are in a studio, the best views are from the top floors since all studios are on the outside corners of the building, and the 1st floor units will likely be enclosed by vegetation. That might not be a negative for some folks though.

All OKW units are convenient to anywhere you want to go, because you are never far from one of the 5 bus stops. All buses will stop at the check in area before exiting the resort, so no need to worry about how far you are from that. Also, there are 4 pools, so also never far from one of those either. Each pool area also has a hot tub, showers, laundry facilities etc. All bus stops have ice machines.

As for the "refurbished" part....The buildings at OKW seem to be in a constant state of rehab. We have been members for 11 years, and with multiple trips a year, we have never been there when at least one building wasn't being refurbished. It's large enough that once they get through the entire resort, it's time to start over again. The inside and outside are on seperate rehab schedules too. I can also say that in 11 years of trips (too many to count), I've only had a problem once with a unit that needed rehab, and that was a 3 bedroom GV that was being taken out of service imediately after our stay. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

We just stayed in BLDG 26 and it was great. A quick walk to the main building and close to 2 bus stops.

It was not newly refub though. Have a great trip!

We'll be in a two bedroom unit. Does anyone know which buildings have been recently refurbished? For views and proximity to the main building, I'm thinking of requesting buildings 13-16, 62-64, and second or third floor. Any more thoughts?

Try this link for resort map,

http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/okwmap.htm

62-64 are HA so those units are primarily for those with mobility/special needs.

11-14 and 23-26 are Hospitality House category (because of close proximity to HH area - main pool, Olivia's, boat dock, Gurgling Suitcase, etc.) It is a booking category that is requested when making reservation with MS.

Like pp Diane said the resort is on a continuous rehab schedule. Sorry, don't know which units/buildings were most recently done either interior or exterior.

All areas have a bus stop that makes getting to HH area a mere matter of minutes.

13 & 14 have a nice view of pond ( you can see this from resort map that different areas have pond, canal views ). Have stayed here and would say 2 and 3 floors are probably best if you want more views because vegetation on first floor level can often obstruct views.

46 was a nice location too with canal view and Southpoint pool was very convenient and there is walkway to DTD that starts at Southpoint area.

Best wishes on your planning :)

We called after booking and requested those exact buildings. The won't promise it, but they note it. We were in a 2 bedroom, 1st on the 3rd floor and then when we had some issues, they moved us to the 1st floor.

We enjoyed the 2 bdrm on the second floor of building 55. Nice water view and very peaceful. Quiet pool is next to the building too.

We'll be there the same time in a 1bedroom and will try for Miller's road area..we like that its a short walk to the main area, but also a bit away from it. We have stayed in almost all areas since becoming members in 1994 and really have not had an issue with any area. Our second favorite area is Turtle Pond area for the pool, one of our favorite areas.

I guess what I'm really concerned about is that we have a pretty water view and aren't on the bottom floor.

So you can't request buildings 11-14 or 23-26 after booking?

No, those are a booking catagory (Hospitality House). The elevator buildings (62-64) are usually reserved for those with mobility issues.

If you want a water view, that's the request I'd make. Some buildings with a GREAT water view are 45, 46, 55 and 56 but there are also others.

Here is a view of Building 46 from across the Trumbo Canal just after dawn!

Best for the water views are buildings 45, 46, and 55, 56. There are some great ones along Miller's Road as well that will be the other side of the views from building 23. We find building 15 to be a very convenient building as well. It is right next door to 64 and has a golf/pond view. It is easy to get to either the Hospitality House area or you can choose to use the Miller's Road bus stop. We find when we stay there that if we see the bus head down to Miller's we can boogy over to HH and be there by the time the bus gets there!

Wow, thanks for the info and the pics! Building 46 is exactly what I was looking for. It looks wonderful!
