Next month my dH and myself will be traveling to Oklahoma for his Gilbert Erector set show. I know about the Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma City Monument but was wondering what else fun would there be to do. We will end up staying in Tulsa after two nights in OK City. Any suggestions on things to do?

Hi. We live in Norman, which is part of the Oklahoma City metro area. I'd be glad to help you with some ideas.

The Oklahoma City Memorial includes a museum. I would suggest taking the time to tour the museum. If you are the least bit interested, it gives you a good idea of the scope of the tragedy. Learn more at www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org

The Cowboy Hall of Fame has some beautiful art and cowboy memorabilia. See what it has to offer at www.cowboyhalloffame.org

The Oklahoma City Zoo is quite nice. It's just around the corner from the Cowboy Hall of Fame. They've improved the landscaping and added some new exhibits. Learn more at www.okczoo.com

Next door to the zoo is the Omniplex, a hands-on science museum. They also have a planetarium, an IMAX theater, an air and space museum, a section of the Berlin wall, photography hall of fame, and gardens. I know I'm leaving something out. The most recent traveling exhibit is the Titanic Artifact Exhibit. It ends in early July. You can get more info at www.omniplex.org.

Bricktown is an old warehouse district that has been refurbished. There are canals with water taxis, wonderful restaurants, nightclubs, shopping, the baseball park where the Redhawks play. I highly recommend at least eating in Bricktown. My family loves to go there. Also in the area is the Myriad Gardens. Check it out at www.bricktownokc.com

Frontier City and White Water Bay are sister parks owned by Six Flags. Frontier City has 3 roller coasters and several fun rides. It isn't a huge park and it's a theme park wanna-be, but it's kind of fun. Sometimes in the summer they have bands on the weekend. Next month's bands include Creedence Clearwater and Charlie Daniel's. White Water Bay is a water park with slides and wave pools. Here is more info

We have horse racing at Remington Park, which is also near the zoo and the Omniplex. Check it out at www.remingtonpark.com

We also have a firefighter's museum and the Softball Hall of Fame if your interests are in either of those areas. I'm glad to try to help answer any questions you might have. Feel free to PM me. I'll answer if I can get to my PM's. LOL!

Merry Poppins thanks for the suggestions. I knew that we wanted to do the Cowboy Hall of Fame went there as a child with parents and the Oklahoma City Memorial. Very interested in touring that place for some personal reasons. Thanks. If you get a chance and you like old toys come over to Tulsa for the Gilbert Erector set show I think we are staying in the Sherton. If you are interested I'll find out more details for you. It's July 26th.

We had a friend who died in the OKC bombing. I visited the spot days after it happened, when they still hadn't found her. I wasn't able to bring myself to go there again until last year. I thought the museum was very moving. They have an area where each person has a small memorial with personal items. They also have a window to the chairs with a chart so you can find your person's chair. You aren't allowed to walk up to the chairs themselves.

Going to the show in Tulsa sounds fun. We've had a good time meeting DISers in the past. We may be remodeling at that point. DH wants to rip up all our carpeting and start laying laminate floors in July. If it looks like we could get away, I'll have to contact you. We like to go to Tulsa. My brother and his wife live there.

When will you be in OKC? If it's a weekend and you'd like to meet some DIS folk from the area, we could maybe plan a meet. After all, I know my family will have to eat, even if we are working. Don't know if we'd have much luck getting people together in the summer, but we could try. Our last meet was in Stillwater, and we have talked about meeting in Bricktown to eat. Let me know what you think. I understand if you just want to do your own thing and not be tied down to any plans, but if you are interested, I can put out a feeler.
