DH and I want to visit the Oklahoma City memorial at the end of summer. Any other fun things to see there? How about good camping spots? We are tent campers. We'd like to stay around the Oklahoma City area for a few days.
Thanks!!
Oh, and any good fishing spots?

Don't know about the fishing spots but what do you consider fun? Give me some ideas and I may be able to help you out....

Pretty much anything. DH is into history and science and law enforcement. I'm up for pretty much anything. We are 49 and 56, if that helps. We both love to fish, love disney.

I live in OKC, but unfortunately we just started camping this year so I am not familiar with campgrounds around here. We are going to try to camp at Lake Arcadia in Edmond sometime this spring so you may want to check it out.

My friend camps at Lake Thunderbird in Norman every summer. She seems to like it. I think we'll try to go with her this summer.

It's sad to say but I have never been to the memorial. I just can't seem to bring myself to go. :( I have walked by and it's beautiful. Bricktown is nice to walk around and there are some good restaurants down there. If you like to gamble we casinos around. Riverwind in Norman is a good one.

Most everything we do is for the kids so I am not sure what else to recommend. If you want to travel outside of OKC there are some nice state parks. We've been to Roman Nose and Robber's Cave. The Wichita Mountains area is nice as is the Chickasaw Recreation Area in Sulpher.

Thanks guys.
Anyone heard of Hospital lakes or ponds? DH says he went there in the 70s....

Not heard of them.. tried to google it and didn't see anything. Most of our activities center around kids as well...

Route 66 has lots of things but you'd have to be willing to travel out of OKC. The state parks are great but once again not really in OKC. Bricktown is beautiful for an afternoon visit (basspro shop is down there as well).
I'd say it depends on how much traveling you are willing to do in a day...

Willing to travel outside of OKC. We love to explore and see different things. Both DH and I work with kids, so kids' stuff is fine as well. We are both pretty young at heart.

Not familiar with camping near OKC; but, I have to say that the Memorial is one of the most impressive places I've ever been. It was very well done and gives one a sense of the ordinary people who died that day.... how easily it could have been me if Timothy McVeigh had targeted my building instead. Make sure you put a kleenex in your pocket...

The science museum is quite fun for kids and maybe for kids at heart. Lots of physical examples of science there. There are quite a few museums in OKC.

Will Rogers Gardens are quite pretty when the roses are blooming.

White Water Bay

Frontier City

Lake Hefner has bike trails and hiking trails......

Route 66:
POPs dinner east of 66 (has soo many drink beverage choices... Coke with sugar)
In Bethany - Several Antique Stores and a Pastry shop
here

There are quite a few antique shops around OKC.

We have yet to go to the memorial, yet.

We've been looking at going to a ball game. We love our minor league Isotopes and going to the ballpark, so we may just have to do that. Unfortunately, we're not going to be there when our Topes are playing the Oklahoma team.
