I have to ask. I have been low-carbing it! I know....we are suppose to enjoy our vacation, but I don't want it to be the death...of my way of eating. I have only been eating this way 3 weeks so by the time I go, I will have been on it 9 weeks....

anyone else??? low-carb or know menu choices?? :cool1:

Some may suggest Ohana, but I recall a review where the diner asked about the meats - they all had a substantial amount of sugar from the marinades. Make sure you ask about things like that!

Otherwise, it's fairly easy to eat at Disney low carb, they're very accomodating. Ask for green veggies instead of the starch, things like that. It's pretty much like eating at restaurants near home.

We aren't going til July so I can't give you direct advice, but from someone who is on Atkins, low carb dining at restaurants in general can be easy. As Forever42 mentioned, be sure to look out for hidden sugars and such (also be aware that some restaurants add pancake batter to their scrambled eggs to fluff them up - ask if you're unsure - I'm sure they would be willing to be accomodating). I've also read elsewhere on the DIS that most places have sugar free desserts available. Have a wonderful trip :flower:

When we go at the end of the month, my wife (Hi Tigrlvspooh :love2: ) and I will have been on Atkins about one month.

We've made the decision to enjoy our vacation without worrying about the diet ... but that is just us. :earboy2:

We plan on using GFs Health Club while we are there and also utilizing the jogging paths around Poly. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Of course we'll restart Atkins when we return. :confused3

I did a modified Atkins on vacation. I ate no french fries (you can order your meals without them) and no bread or buns. I didn't worry about the "hidden sugars" since I was excercising more than I usually do and burning off any undesirable carbs.

Almost every counter service restaurant has a salad. I would also eat chicken strips (yes, I know they are breaded). Naked burgers at WDW are gross (IMO).

As long as you skip the high hypoglycemic (sp?) carbs you should be fine :).

Good advice :flower: One word of caution - don't go overboard if you decide to scrap the Atkins WOE for your trip. I started Atkins last summer and was doing awesome with it. 6 weeks in, my DH planned a fabulous birthday weekend getaway to the mountains. Our mystery train ride had incredible food and served me an amazing cheesecake for my birthday. I decided to splurge. The next morning, the bed and breakfast we had served blueberry pancakes and a fruit cup for breakfast. I was starving and there weren't any other options for me to eat, so I just enjoyed it. Well I really paid for it. I got VERY VERY VERY sick to my stomach from eating the refined carbs. It was a 3-4 hour drive home and we had to stop a LOT for potty breaks

Enjoy your vacation! I'm going to try to take an Atkins "break" also but will be wary after last time LOL

I was doing low-carb last year for about 6 weeks prior to a cruise. I did fine with that, so I'm thinking you can do just fine at Disney. There are plenty of great salads, meats, etc. The desserts on the cruise weren't huge, so that helped. I avoided the buffets, and that also helped...a lot. Just don't go overboard but allow yourself :3dglasses dessert.

Thanks for the link, it was uplifting. I didn't do as well on the cruise, I gained 8 #'s but I recouped; for the most part in the parks I have always either stayed the same or lost a pound or two.

Thanks to the OP and to all of you for your answers. I will also be "low-carbing" it on our cruise and visit to WDW in October. Only my choice is due to medical reasons. I was diagnosed Type II Diabetic on January 13 of this year. Since then I have drastically cut my carbs and my eating habits (no potatoes, rice, pasta, noodles, very little bread) and of course no sugars at all. I have lost 33 pounds and with the aid of some oral meds, my blood sugars are now very normal. So eating the low carb way is now a permanent way of life, but I really don't mind. I'm confident I can continue that way at Disney. Thanks for the heads-up on the marinades for the meats at 'ohanas, we were planning to eat there, might need to change those plans.

I wouldn't necessarily change those plans - in the review I read, the cooks made the diner a skewer of meat without the marinades. I would try calling Ohana and asking, if you're really interested in going.
