This is probably going to sound stupid, but I need to let off some steam.
I had my left ear repierced in November, because one of the holes was originally pierced too low. (It felt uncomfortable.) Anyway, for the past few days, my left ear has begun to tinge with uncomfort. I looked at my ear, and realized that the repierced hole closed up. I was putting earrings in the original hole for awhile.

I can't stand it. Last night, I decided that I'm going to let my earring holes close up. This morning, my mother noticed. She flipped. She thinks it's a bad idea for me to do this - she thinks that I'll want my ears repierced by next week. For most of the day, she's been forcing me to put earrings back into my ears. I absolutely refuse to.

I don't like having holes in either of my earlobes anymore. I may be paranoid about this, because I'm always afraid that one of the holes will open while I'm sleeping or walking. And I actually like the way my ears look without dangling jewelry hanging from them.

My mom thinks the other way. She yelled at me earlier and said, "Everyone wears earrings now, Jaimie!"

A. I can name a few people who don't have their ears pierced.
B. Since when did I give her the decision to decide what goes through my ears?

She also suggested that I should wear one earring in my right ear lobe while the left one closes up. I am not willing to do this under any circumstances.

I mean, I like to have her input, but having her force down the fact that I should be wearing earrings, just like everyone else, is getting to me.

It sounds so stupid: OMG Jaimie's fighting with her mom about earrings! To me, its more than that.
If any of you read this, I appreciate it.

psh. she's your mom. she's supposed to disagree with you on things. and you should stand up for what you believe in.

but i will still love you even if you don't have holes in your ears.

I know that there are times where I just don't get along with her. However, I'm under the impression that she wants me to have my ears pierced because everyone else has them pierced.

I'm no longer willing to conform to that. They're my ears, and I love them the way they are without earrings.

And thanks. :)

Jaimie, like I said before, It's your choice. You feel better without earrings, I can't blame you, then don't wear them. It really isn't your mom's choice. Sit down and calmly talk to her.

Hope things work out okay.

Thanks. I really do need to make it clear with her.

Jaimie... that sucks because well it just does. Vent to me cuz I'm an air conditioner HAHAHA

If you dont want your ears pierced, then let the holes close up and get magnetic earrings. Your probally thinking, "What the hell are magnetic earrings?". Walmart and Claires sells them. They look just like earrings. They come with a little stone or whatever and there is a little piece of metal that you take off the back, hold it to the back of your ear, and hold the earring over the magnetic piece and it'll attach. They are cheap too. :) I have to wear these instead of regular earrings because I had my ears pierced a couple years ago but my earring was ripped out so now I have a slit in my ear. Anyways, these look just like earrings and I cant tell you how many people have asked if I got my ears pierced.

Maybe talk to your mom about those?

It's an option that I might consider discussing with her. You see, I can't stand clip ons for my life, and I fear that magnetic earrings would be like that. [Even though they're probably not.]

Thanks for the post, Brit.

Air conditioning is the last thing I need. I'm shivering. ;) But honestly, thanks for the offer. :goodvibes

No prob. dah-ling. You're always there for me hehe... you can be my heating... but that doesn't make sense lol.

I understand hoe much more it is than just an "earring" thing for you. Talk it over. Find a compromise. You'll be back to normal in no time

^ hahhaha.

But really, don't feel bad. I don't have my ears pierced, and my mom's always asking me if I want to get them pierced, cause all my friends have their ears pierced.

Thanks. I'm probably going to sit down with her and talk to her tomorrow.

Exactly.

You are the owner of your ears, but your mom is the owner of you. Tricky, huh?

Throw some Ralph Waldo Emerson and some Henry David Thoreau at her. Tell her that you march to the beat of a different drummer and that you believe imitation is suicide! Get literary with her like none other!! Revolt! :upsidedow

:rotfl: I was thinking about saying something to that extent.

Tell her about bridges and if everyone jumped off, since you were different and didn't have your ears pierced you may be able to SAVE YOUR LIFE!

You want to get even more dramatic with her, put some citations in there after you quote a famous transcendentalist. In fact, why not preach the entire paragraph from Emerson's Self-Reliance?

"There is a time in every man`s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till. The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried. Not for nothing one face, one character, one fact, makes much impression on him, and another none. It is not without preestablished harmony, this sculpture in the memory. The eye was placed where one ray should fall, that it might testify of that particular ray. Bravely let him speak the utmost syllable of his confession. We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents. It may be safely trusted as proportionate and of good issues, so it be faithfully imparted, but God will not have his work made manifest by cowards. It needs a divine man to exhibit anything divine. A man is relieved and gay when he has put his heart into his work and done his best; but what he has said or done otherwise shall give him no peace. It is a deliverance which does not deliver. In the attempt his genius deserts him; no muse befriends; no invention, no hope."

Once you finish reading that to her, she may say to heck with it and let you decide just to shut you up lol.
