run them in the dishwasher before using them for the first time?? Now I started thinking about this last night.....if housekeeping unloads the dishes that people leave in the dishwasher and then puts them away.....how clean are their hands when they are putting clean dishes/utensils away? Did they just clean the bathroom? hmmmmmm food for thought? Just curious if I am the only PERSON that would probably run them in the dishwasher before using them for the first time. I personally wash my hands everytime I put clean dishes/utensils away. :goodvibes

I assume a dog has licked everything anywhere I go just to be safe.

We wash ours. Why take a chance.

I do.

It's part of our arrival day routine. Dishes, tub, clorox wipes to all door knobs/remotes/phones/toilet seat & handle & anything else I can think of.

DH skeeves everything so...

WHEW....glad to hear I am not the only one then. LOL I plan on doing the exact same things......

I've stayed at DVC at least 15 times and never thought of it. What do you do when you eat out at a restaurant? How do you know those utensils and dishes are clean?

ah ha that is very true.......more food for thought..

That was my first thought!:rotfl2: I would have never thought of running everything through the dishwasher, unless it looked visually dirty, which I have seen in restaurants but not at DVC!

You know, it's funny - as I was checking out last week I thought "Wonder if all these dishes I've been using were really clean?"

But I would never go to the trouble of washing them - and usually I don't think about any of that stuff.

For the record, I never clean the tub, wipe anything off, and I go barefoot and sleep on top of the comforter for naps, sometimes without much on!!!! It's a great big germy world out there and I take my chances on it every day!!

You know I never thought about stuff like that either until I joined these boards. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Sometimes TOO MUCH INFORMATION is not a good thing. We have always walked around on the carpets in disney resorts barefoot, lay on the bedspreads, drink from the glasses that housekeeping leaves. I never wiped down anything until I think this last trip in Jan. BUT...I also have good friends that have unfortunately gotten very ill twice ...once last year and once this year....STOMACH FLU.....that went through their entire family both trips. IT ruined one trip so bad that her dh felt so bad....he booked another trip a few months later. Then it happened again this Feb....and it lasted for days because they have 4 kids.. and it went through them and the parents SO....IT REALLY MAKES ONE start thinking about WAYS TO DEGERM YOUR VILLA OR RESORT ROOM/precautions to take while at parks too. LIKE HAND SANITIZER. So.....that is why I posted this. :goodvibes

Ditto.

Yes, my wife washes what we intend to use.

In addition, we run the clothes washer through a cycle with our starter Tide before we put our stuff in it.
For all I know, the family just before us washed a poop diaper in there. Can't have that...

I don't wash the sheets before I sleep in the bed.
I do walk in bare feet on the carpet.
I don't remove the bedspread before I use the bed.
I do lay on the bedspread from time to time.
I don't rewash the dishes before I use them.
I do use the toilet and tub without recleaning them.
I don't carry Lysol to clean the door handles, remote control, etc.
I do use the hot tub from time to time.
I don't carry Purell or any other alcohol based hand rub.
I do wash my hands frequently.
I don't wipe off the silverware at restaurants before I use it.
I do cover my sneezes.
I don't think you want to kill all germs.
I do think that some people create their own illnesses by trying to avoid all germs.

I have to agree with most. I think people are geting sicker when they try to avoid the germs. Our bodies are designed to fight them, but if you take the germs away at a young age, when you are exposed later, you get sick.

First thing we do is load the dishwasher and run it. Second thing is to wipe down the phones and remote. That's it..

I agree with you 100%. And somehow I've managed to go on a lot of vacations without me or any family members getting sick. It's amazing to me what people find to worry about. If I ever went on a cleaning binge after checking in DH would have me committed.

Yep, same here! I'd hate to think EVERYTHING was goning to make me sick, because then I would NEVER have any fun.

Me too! If I want to clean house and worry I'll stay home. I've been going to WDW since 1988 and I've managed to survive this long -- I'm happy.

We don't re-do anything unless there appears to be a problem, in which case we decide whether it is easier to just do it ourselves or call mousekeeping. I have gone to friends' homes and noted them not washing hands before unloading the dishwasher, although I always do so. No big deal. We feel that the most important thing to do to keep from getting sick at WDW is to WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY. I AM very careful about not touching paper towel dispensers, door knobs, etc. in bathrooms after washing my hands.
