Hi, all. The fam and I are going to Orlando this summer, and we're doing Seaworld, UO and IoA (not Disney fans). Last June, I had to get most of my tailbone removed, and it takes about a year to recover completely. I know I will be quite limited on which rides I can go on, certainly nothing that's too bouncy or otherwise would jostle me too much.

Can anyone recommend which rides would be ok? i.e., that are more gentle but not boring for an adult? I am hoping to be able to use one of my special cushions to soften the blow, as long as I can attach it to myself so it doesn't fly off if we get slightly airborne!

Thanks!

At the Studios:
Terminator-very easy on the body
MIB-alot of spinning
ET-very easy
Simpsons-alot of jarring and sudden moves
Jaws-easy
Disater-alittle jarring in the subway
Shrek-get a stationary seat
Jimmy Neutron-the same as Shreck

The shows are great.Beetljuice,Horror Make-Up,Animal Actors Live!!
Hope I didnt miss anything..
The Studios side is easy,IOA alot diff.Hope someone can point out the good for you overthere..
Hope this helps!!:thumbsup2

There will be others that will respond to your question.
Thats the great thing about this side of the board,we are very helpful..:thumbsup2

Have you spoken with your surgeon? Talk to him/her to find out if you have to stay on restriction or are free to do as you please.

For fun, yet not overly intense rides at IOA:
-Spider-Man. Has some jostling, but you stay planted in your seat.
-Cat in the Hat. Lots of spinning.
-One Fish Two Fish. Okay, it's a kiddie ride, but it's fun. And wet.
-Seuss Trolley. It's a train ride. Very smooth.
-Caro-seuss-el. It's a carousel. :3dglasses
-Popeye & Blutos. It's a white water rapids ride. It's smooth, as the barge is very well padded to absorb most "bumps." It's also soaking wet.
-Storm Force. It spins. A lot.

I'll put Jurassic Park River Adventure as a big *maybe*. It has just one significant drop, but that drop is 80+ ft! It's a smooth drop, though.

Doctor Doom is another maybe. It shoots you straight up, you get some airtime, then the ride is slow & easy. The intense part is over in 10 seconds.

Shows: Posiedon's Fury & The 8th Voyage of Sindbad.

Watch out for Shrek 4D. It's a movie. In a movie theater. Sounds safe, right? Wrong. Your seat bounces all over the place. (Maybe to make you feel like you were riding along with the characters in the movie? I can't remember the reason.)

For you, this might be worse than a lot of the rides.

The seat movement is the 4th "D" in Shrek 4D...there are stationary seats available for this attraction.

I actually don't see my surgeon for my one-year follow-up until right after we get back, but based on how I feel today, I know I can handle stuff that won't put too much torque on my lower back/hips or that won't slam me down.

GREAT info about Shrek...thanks!!

Neglected to mention...my boys are 13, 12 and 8, so we won't be doing the little kiddie rides. I just wish I could ride the roller coasters!

Quick update...I am here in Orlando and went to SeaWorld yesterday. I was excited to be able to ride the Manta roller coaster (didn't expect that), and also did Journey to Atlantis. Came through just fine.

Looking forward to UO and IoA! We will likely go Monday to avoid tomorrow's crowds, although we might try tomorrow night.

just wanted to wish you a good vacation~ I broke my tailbone giving birth and it's so painful! I hope you can enjoy your visit.

I fell down the stairs and bruised mine a long time ago. You are so right...it hurts like you know what. :rolleyes1

You might need to watch out for the Jimmy Neutron ride, while it is a simulator, at the end they do the birdie song and the seats are hard plastic, and they do bounce you up and down quite a bit , so you might need to be aware of this.
My DW had cracked her tailbone, and although it was healing ,she thinks that this part of the ride did not help her

Good to know about the Neutron ride! I brought a cushion to sit on. It's actually a back support but it has a strap, so I can put that on and bounce around without it hurting. It'll look funny, but it'll protect my butt!

We were so tired this morning after running around in yesterday's heat, and having a late dinner at Hard Rock (didn't bring my ECV and had NO idea we'd have to walk that far, even from handicap parking), that we're chilling at the Marriott today and not heading to Universal until 3.

Looking back now through this thread and my notes so I can make sure I am prepared for the rides! Thanks again, all!

Oh, and yes, tailbone pain is the worst!! I broke mine when I was five and it didn't start to hurt until I was 39! Suddenly got hypermobile after I tried tai chi. I had to have surgery last June to have it removed. I'd had no idea it had snapped right off! Serious pain. So glad it's over! Although my upper butt cheeks hurt just from the walk to Hard Rock -- not used to that!

Just a final update...using my back rest cushion as a seat cushion on several rides, I was able to ride everything I wanted to, including the roller coasters! I had no problems at all on the Hulk, Spiderman, Revenge of the Mummy (top three faves), Jaws, Simpsons, Terminator, Shrek, Dueling Dragons, the water flume/boat rides, etc. Even rode Manta at SeaWorld (extremely awesome; I highly recommend it!).

We had a fantastic trip, largely because of how well done the parks are (they blow away Kings Dominion here in Virginia), how great the staff was everywhere, and because my ECV enabled me to take it easy so I could enjoy all the attractions. UO and IoA are definitely more commercialized than SeaWorld, but they all really do it right in so many ways.

Thank you to everyone here who gave me such useful info. I was truly surprised I could do it all (although I did take the stationary seat for our first attraction, Jimmy Neutron, and then realized I could likely handle it) and that I got through it pain-free! It was worth having to wait a year for our trip.

Glad you had a great time lilheathen, and you managed everything you wanted.:thumbsup2
So time to start to think about next year again:rolleyes1

Our boys definitely want to go back to Orlando, but I think the next big trip (every two years, maybe) will be Atlantis in the Bahamas or southern California (the boys are jonesing for LegoLand!).

We certainly liked it all enough to come back, but we like some variety in our destinations too! :-)
