Okay I thought renting a golf cart would be too expensive and we'd just ride our bikes.
But...
1) I need to buy a new bike because my eldest now has MY fairly new bike since she basically tore hers up from treating it poorly (ugh)- I'd have to buy another bike for me so we'd all have bikes, plus more chain locks for them- and who knows if we'd always be able to find space for all FIVE bikes if we left them at the dock/etc.
and
2) I was reading some other threads that there may be golf carts available much cheaper? (tee time I think it was called?)

So here's my questions:
If you rent a golf cart from offsite- can you still charge them at FW and leave them at the same places at FW? Or do you have to always take it back to your site?
What happens if your rented golf cart comes up missing? (yes I worry about things like that! If it's mine and it's stolen I'd be upset- if it's rented and stolen that's a whole new ball of wax paying $$ for it- or do they come with insurance like when you rent a vehicle?)

Where can you leave golfcarts like say you take it to the dock and go on the boat to MK and is there some place to leave it if you go to the bus up front to get on the bus to go to another park?

And how do any of you use golf carts for a family of 5? Is it okay with Disney if you hold a child on your lap? I guess this one is the most important- because if they won't allow this NO WAY am I going to rent 2 golfcarts. yanno?

LMK please!

Good questions. I am very interested in the responses. we are leaving shortly and are starting to consider a cart as well.

Yes - whether brought from home, rented from Disney or offsite, all carts are welcome in all the places carts can go at FW. Keep in mind that there are only a limited number of places to charge them outside of your site/cabin, and those places tend to get crowded.

I suppose that depends on the rental company - I'd check with them. But honestly - it doesn't seem to be a big problem at FW at all. For starters, it would be very difficult to take a cart off property. Just be sure not to leave the keys in it.

There are places to park carts both at the marina, and at the bus stop near the Outpost. They can get very crowded certain times of day/year, but you will generally be able to find a place to put your cart somewhere there.

I don't believe there are any set rules there. I've seen loads of extended families piled into carts before. If you can all squish in and hang on, you should be fine.

If it helps at all, one of the off-site companies (Golf Cart Enterprises) also rents 6 person carts.

Speaking of... good GC info including the contact information for GCE and Tee Time (Kenny) are in this thread HERE.

It should also be easy to find info posted by other DISers on either of these companies by using the search feature. :thumbsup2

thank for all the info!
I'm still unsure which we'll do. (meaning buy me a bike/etc. or rent a golfcart) I dunno.
I called tee-time to see how much it would cost- it's $224 for a week... I don't know if we should splurge that much but I might not be able to get that price anyway. He said he thinks he's booked completely during our trip (so yeah there is definitely more than 2 of his carts at FW -someone on another thread mentioned they only saw 2. LOL There must be many more there and they only "saw" 2. LOL) but he'l get back to me on Monday and let me know for sure.
Sounds like we might have just as much trouble finding a spot to park and/or charge our golf cart as it will be finding a place to lock up 5 bikes. :confused3

If you charge the golf cart over night you shouldn't have to worry about charging it during the day. At the marina it is hard to find a spot just before the firework. Idon't ride a bike but I know I have seen a lot by the marina too. The last time I was at the fort I rented a cart from Kenny. I would reccomend him.

Is Kenny the person from Tee-time? Do you have a phone number or website for them?

I also worried about something happening to a rented cart, so I asked my insurance agent. The last several trips I have had it temporarily covered under my homeowner's policy. After I get the cart, I call my agent and give him the info. (year, model #, serial #, $ value, etc) It is covered until I call back at the end of my vacation and cancel. (Prorated for the actual time - I think it was about $20 or $30 for 3 weeks.) This is not just liability, but full coverage. We have never had anything happen, but it puts my mind at rest.

This is a very good idea. The rental co.'s ought to offer it like rental car co.'s
