I hope you find good lattes Coaster Addict. around these parts. I don't drink coffee so I wouldn't know. I take it you've located the Krispy Kreme in Medford?

Funny Pin Wizard, my jeans are always frozen when they come off the line. Thank goodness for the radiators. My family doesn't believe in Dryers. Mom saw some show back in the day about houses burning down due to dryers. So neither of us have one.

Ah, yes! The radiators! I used to plant my shoes, sneakers, and boots in front of them on a newspaper. I need my dryer! Plus I think my lousy homeowner's assoc. would get after me if I had a clothes line in the backyard. Actually, many moons ago when I worked for a cable TV company in NJ, there was a lady who worked in my department who did have her dryer catch on fire! Scarey.

Congrats to everyone on the weight loss. I'm making weight loss a resolution for the first time in my life. I'm still not serious about it. I can say that one of the few times when I lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time (and to me that's 5-10 pounds in 2 weeks) was right before my high school reunion. I was so nervous that I couldn't think of eating. And when I did think of it, I just remembered I didn't want to look like a fatty in front of my ex and all those silly girls in school who were after him. Oh well, stupid reason, but it worked.

I keep telling people from high school that we need to plan another reunion soon, because I keep gaining weight! Otherwise, I just have no incentive to lose. And I can't eat anything yummy in moderation. If it's in my house, it's gone! So... I have to practice all my self control at the time of purchase.

As for weather, I was SOOOOOOOO miserable just walking from the store to the car today that I decided NOT to go to Mardi Gras this year unless there is a heat wave during that time. I kept thinking (really, SAYING, because I tend to talk to myself when I feel I'm close to death)... WHY would anyone be out in this weather if they didn't have to be???? This was like complete HELL for me; I don't think I can ever move back up "north" (New Orleans :teeth: )

HI, SuprGro! Welcome! (Am I allowed to say that? I only started coming here, myself.) I am hoping to make it to Boston in April. With 2 of you from MA on here, we should have a meal or something!

I was on Bourbon St. on Halloween night last year. I couldn't even walk through some areas. I couldn't imagine what Mardis Gras is like  I think I'll skip it too but not for weather related reasons. By the way, when exactly in Feb. is Mardi Gras? I will be there at the end of Feb. for work related trip.

I am still trying to put Christmas stuff away! The tree is still up!:(

I'm going to take this opportunity, as I always do when given the chance, to be a snob and knock Busch Gardens.

I hear Barry likes video taping all the pre-prostitute teeny boppers who walk around there in their bikini tops, though. So I expect a rebuttal. :p

Well, Busch Gardens Tampa is not the greatest park in Florida and doesn't compare with Universal's and Disney's parks, but those parks set themselves so high that no other park comes close to them. BGT, for what it's worth, is a pretty decent park. It has some good coasters. The park is laid out in a weird way, but it grew from the Brewery (where Gwazi stands) and went out from there. If you like coasters, BGT has a pretty good collection.

If you think BGT is bad, try going to a Six Flags park. Some Six Flags parks are good and some aren't, but after visiting several, it seems that the parks don't know how to run their coasters (like having one train on the coaster track when the line is a mile long), food quality ("good Six Flags food" is an oxymoron -- pack a lunch!), and employee quality (can be really good or really bad). Six Flags also attracts a lot of young people, including "pre-prostitute teeny boppers who walk around there in their bikini tops." I don't video tape them. I just ogle at them through sunglasses, er, my friend does, yeah, that's it!

However, I think the best overall park experience I've ever had was not at Disney (gasp!), but at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. They out-Disney in a lot of things. I'd say it's a better experience than Disney, even more so now that Disney has been making rides on the cheap (Journey Into Your Imagination? Primeval Whirl?).

My first post on the WISH board was 10/28/03. So it's just over 2 months! I knew it was quick, but not that quick. I've been hanging around the same number on the scale since the middle of December. I've DRASTICALLY cut back on carbs, increased protein a little, and try to get out for a walk/run. But I need to get back to the exercise especially!! I'm doing great with the rest.

Some people may hate me for saying this, but I've never believed in a low-carb diet. Carbs are supposed to give you energy, so more carbs would seem the better approach. If you lose 30 lbs. or whatever in 1 month, it doesn't sound like weight loss to me. It sounds like you will end up gaining that weight back eventually. The best way to control your weight is through regular exercise and eating well. There are those lose weight fast things, like wrapping yourself in plastic or whatever, but I don't think that's the best way to lose weight. It'll all just come back.

Thanks, Jen! :teeth: An incentive to do it always helps to get started. The thing is to keep it up once the incentive is gone! That's the tough part for me. Red light foods! That's what we called them years ago when I went to Weight Watchers. There are just some things we can't deal with, so don't have any in the house. One of my red light foods is peanut butter. There's no being sensible about eating it...LOL! So I keep it around for DS's lunches, but I don't have even a tiny morsel. Good luck!

You're right, Barry. Believe me, I get enough carbs as it is. I was getting too much before.  But I am finding doing this is workable. I have carbs at each meal. :)

I think it's Feb 27th this year. My calendar doesn't show Mardi Gras, but it shows Feb 28th as Ash Wednesday, and I'm about 98% sure that Mardi Gras is the day before that. So, if you're there any time before that, you'll be able to catch some parades. Yeah, Feb is a little early. I think it was in March last year, and it just happened to be not too cold.

I'd say it's a better experience than Disney, even more so now that Disney has been making rides on the cheap (Journey Into Your Imagination? Primeval Whirl?).
Hey, I LOVE Primeval Whirl!!! And I think Dinoland is pretty cute. The Six Flags that I last visited (Dallas) was pretty lame, but not as bad as Busch Gardens. I still can't believe Six Flags parks are trying to call themselves theme parks. Get over yourself, Six Flags; you're an amusement park! Barry, have you been to the Six Flags in New Orleans? I hear it's severely lame.

Sorry, Barry, but that makes no sense. It's the excess energy that is stored as fat. Fat also gives you energy, more than twice the energy per unit than carbs, as a matter of fact. If you're thinking "gives you energy" in the intangible meaning of "energy" that means "yeah! i'm full of energy!," that's not what is meant by "carbs give you energy." It means a measurable form of chemical energy, like the gas in your car. It means calories. Eating too many carbs actually has a fatiguing effect on most people. I'm not really up to snuff on the whole Atkins philosophy, but it's actually based in biochemistry and physiology. I do believe a big part of it has to do with carbs' effects on insulin regulation. So, it's much more complex that "carbs give you energy." Some day I will read that book that I've had for years; then I will be able to tell you more. Yeah right.

Red light foods! That's what we called them years ago when I went to Weight Watchers. There are just some things we can't deal with, so don't have any in the house.
I know most people don't do well on diets where they deny themselves the "yummy" things, but that's what I did when I was thin. And I did it for years and years and years. And you know what... I didn't crave those things or really even miss them. You actually start to prefer lighter foods, and the fatty ones aren't as appealing. Deciding to not be so anal about dieting was my downfall. I should have never even started eating that stuff. Now I can't stop!!!! I used to live on salads, and now I can hardly stand to eat one. Sigh. Well, I don't crave bad foods as much when I'm exercising, either, so hopefully it will be easier once I start hitting the gym. ;) I need a skinny, healthy friend as a role model!

And hey... PW... you aren't destined to gain that weight back. Sometimes you need some rapid weight loss to give you the confidence to continue. As long as you don't over-starve yourself and don't expect to continue to lose at that rate, you can do it!

Wasn't this thread about single people or something? ;) I have no dates lined up. BUT you know what I just remembered? I had a dream about the red-headed Disney guy! That is weird. I didn't even talk to him.

Well it's good to hear I won't gain it back if I keep it up, Jen. I even have a rare, occasional slice of pizza. I just don't eat 3 any more. LOL! ;) DS was diagnosed with diabetes this past April. That's when the bit about the carbs first hit me. Carbs are what they are really limiting and counting with him. I keep track of his blood sugar tests, amount of insulin given, and his carbs for each meal and snack. They aren't counting the rest. He CAN have anything. But we have to check the package for serving size and number of carbs to stay on his plan. Even occasional chocolate chip cookies! Hey...they didn't let me have this stuff when I was 13 and found I was diabetic! They've come a long way. And the things that have carbs that I never would have thought of...milk, vegetables! :earseek: My sister started me on this actually. She's been cutting her carbs and doig Pillates. She said the weight just dropped off. Yeah, I guess so because it's working here, too!

I'll just slip a little diversion posting here, ignore it folks....;)

I went to Pleasure Island tonight, The Adventurers Club is a real hoot, and went to the Comedy Club as well, they are awesome with what they come up with. And I cruised the other clubs too, left at 1am and came back home. Next weekend I'll try the Citywalk at Universal, but the Adventurers Club is a riot, I feel like I'm one of them having traveled all over and eventually winding up in Alaska, they do a theme show and skits for adventurers, I do it in real life. One of the cast members was trying to convince working for the Mouse would be the best thing in life, I dunno, most all I've done in the last couple of years is stir up controversy on the other boards. But its a thought, at least I have technical skills which is in demand, it would be a change from frigid isolated Alaska where the bars are open 23 hours a day. And thats a fact.:D

night folks.

AGH AGH AGH!!! WHY DO I DO IT??? My eyes are hurting from crying after reading a thread about putting your pet to sleep. THEN I move to another thread where gobs of people are breeding their pets, even their STRAY pets, and so my blood is boiling!!! WHY WHY WHY do I stay up late reading this stuff when I have to go to work in the morning? And WHY do I dedicate my life to stopping pet overpopulation when there are MILLIONS of selfish people in this country causing the murder of more and more pets every year? For every person I convince to NOT breed, there are 20 more doing it. It's all so useless. I should have been a lawyer; if I'm not going to make a difference, I might as well be well-off. :(

PW--
I'm going to start slow with yoga and pilates, too. Even yoga left me sore when I went to that ONE class. Haven't done pilates yet.

Good night, all. Another sleepy day tomorrow.

Glad you were able to make it out for some "adult" entertainment (that sounds bad). Night night.

Once in a great while I like to mingle with the general population, never in my whole life have I really felt comfortable being in crowds, one of the things about living in Alaska is isolation, gives me more time on my projects and hobbies though. Isn't PI adult? it seemed like it to me though its rather tame, must be the Disney influence.

I just added my signature. Now I feel better.

:faint: :faint: :faint: sleepy time

It sounds like you're having a GREAT time, Mr. D. I haven't been to any of those yet. Hmmm...I guess that means I need at least one more trip to Disney!! ;)
