Okay I'm venting...

When people pay for a specific view, and they don't get it, they should absolutely complain about it. And they should be able to come here and talk about their experience without being made to feel like malcontent misfits.

Having said that, I still think that people get way riled up over stuff that, to me personally, would just not be a big deal. I think that is what Mandy was talking about.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! If you have paid for your water view room, you should get it!!! But some people pay for the standard view rooms, then actually plan on asking for their upgrade to a water view room, and they get mad when they don't get it!

Jen Dawson,

I completely agree with you. I don't see the rampant negatively, either. The complaining or venting threads are pretty clearly identified as such so, if these kinds of messages get on your nerves, you always have the option of ignoring them.

Of course we can ignore them. But when the title of the post is something like "My stay at the CSR" or "Just back from AKL" we want to read them to get information. Alot of these have petty negative comments in them.

I see people commenting on if they did or didn't, and excitement if they had a great view..but other than someone paying big bucks for a special room, and being disappointed when they see a wall..I'm not seeing what you are seeing. I'd be upset if I paid for a deluxe, with a view and saw a wall or highway too. Not that this has ever happened, since we've always been lucky to have great rooms, and up til next month, have only stayed at All Stars. Even then we are only moving up to a moderate. I have never felt bad when I have read someone is staying in a fancy hotel on Dis property..just happy for them. I could never justify paying all those bucks..but they sure don't have to justify it to me. Good for them, and I love to read their happiness.

***I love to read about wonderful deluxe stays also!! But what you're talking about is something totally different than what my frustration is about.

I've never had that burden, but I'm not sure why (unless someone is jealous), it would be something to "vent" about, that others can afford something more expensive and still want an upgrade or the "most" for their money. I don't have a problem with others sharing about their good luck..someday maybe we'll have enough money (although I would prob still stay in a less expensive place..and spend the money on yummy food) to have this burden.

***Oh my! I'm not jealous, if that's what you're implying! I have no reason to be. I can totally understand wanting and wishing for an upgrade. But again, I don't think you're on the same wavelength as me. I love hearing about others' good luck as well, it makes me very hopeful and gives way to positive thinking for my next trip in May.

Then chances are good, they aren't on this board

***That's not entirely true. I have several friends who read these boards all the time, but they're in college right now and money can only go so far, so there is no possible way they could go to Disney World any time soon. I'm sure there are all kinds of people who read these boards.

I sure haven't seen many of them...but even if someone isn't paying their own way, how lucky they are to get treated special at Disney.

***There are some people who are staying off site, and one who is staying at the All Star Sports. I read one post just recently as a matter of fact. Plus, someone's paying for me to go next month! We'll only be there for 4 days, but I don't care where we stay or what we do, I just want to go to Disney World!

Yes, uh..things sure are tough for a lot of folks...and you are right! Most everything is more important than these rooms..but after all, this is the DISNEY board. Lots of lists out there for discussing the world issues. This is a magical list, where most of us are here to plan vacations..maybe to get away from everyday pain.

***That is a very good point. I totally agree.

Now that I have noticed..seems when new folks have questions about mugs and swimming at other resorts (becasue they are new, and aren't "savy" like us!), they often get jumped on. But I sure never got the impression, that suggesting that you ask if they have an upgrade available, or a room with a view, would be a turn off to new people. I never would have thought of asking for a room by a pool, if I hadn't read it here. I didn't know it was allowed...and I think those of you who told me about it. My last room at Sports was right by the pool! I know I'm always happy when people "brag" about the great prices they got with a code..and I trot myself right over to see if it wil be helpful for me!

***Yet again, that's not what I'm talking about. There is nothing wrong with asking for an upgrade. But when people *expect* an upgrade, then get mad when their every wish is not granded, it's just silly. Or to use Poly Pal's word, shallow.

Maybe it's time for you to rest from some of the threads that really bother you..or maybe even put some of the posters on ignore (if this is available on this list..I don't know, I've not tried it). Or..maybe it's time to plan a really relaxing vacation somewhere...hmmm, anyone have any suggestions?

***Disney World? :D

***There are some people who are staying off site, and one who is staying at the All Star Sports.

And these are the people you say are complaining on these boards about not getting Disney upgrades? Now I really am confused.

Unfortunately, with just my part being quoted, and not what I was commenting on, your answers don't realy cover the comments I had on your original vent.

Your main complaint was that people just should be happy about going to DW, and shouldn't complain about "the little" things, and you said they should just be happy to be going, because some people can't go. But some of the things I have heard people complain about, aren't so little when you add up what they are paying (there are always a few more silly requests..but as I looked back over the posts on this board..I see so few compared to the great suggestions and ideas I glean from this board..I mean how many people compalin about the kind of soda served..really?).

Also, the part about who reads the boards. You said:

Or just be glad you're going at all. There's alot of people out there who don't have the 'burdon' of choosing between a Deluxe or a Value or a Moderate. And do you know why? Because they're not going to Disney World at all.

Some may be college students, but why would they think people who have worked and saved, shouldn't be trying to get the most for their money. You just said their money can only go so far...so it should be a plus that when they do get to go, they know it's alright to ask for an upgrade..maybe get something more than you thought you would for your money. I assume if they are reading these boards, but have no plans to go to DW, they are reading them for ideas, for when they can go.

There is nothing wrong with asking for an upgrade. But when people *expect* an upgrade, then get mad when their every wish is not granded, it's just silly.

Show me these posts, please. Compared to the amount of posting on this list that are real positive..I'd like to see where there is any signicficant amount of people doing this type of complaining (or even just a few).

I also can see where like you, if someone paid for me to go to Disney, I would think it's ungrateful to complain about where I end up..however, I have no one to pay my way, so I when I do go, I want to at least get what I believe I'm paying for..and if I don't, I hope it's OK to post it here to "warn" others of what to expect.

I'll be there in May also, at POR..where I'm expecting a great time, even if I don't get the room I'm requesting..but if I do..Yippee (and although for information purposes, I may come back here and let people know how I made out..I'll just have to hope people don't see it as complaining).

I don't think you're on the same wavelength as me.
Same wavelength, different opinion and view taken when people come back and tell about their trips.

***That is exactly what I'm talking about!!! Of course it's okay to post here to "warn" others!! I can totally understand dissapointment if you don't get to stay on site, but some people are making a big deal about it when it really isn't that big!!

***Maybe this is exactly what it is. But not in all cases.

This has really turned into a debate on what people should or should not be allowed to post.

My only comment on that is to see the Posting Guidelines.

Seeing as this thread is not discussing Disney Resort information, it is off topic for the Resort board.

If you wish to continue your debate - please feel free to start a new thread on the appropriate board - The Debate Board.

This thread is now closed.
