Advice. We are getting ready for what could turn out to be one of the biggest pin meets in history... 4 days of trading... I have seen a few posts about sizes of collections and hunts for holy grails on not just this board but others as well... I think we should also be aware of good trading practices... I would offer this thread to all of you to post what you do to protect yourself and your pins...

One thing to do is make sure you keep a sharp eye on your trader book(s). Remeber while you can ask a friend to watch your books they are there to trade as well and are busy watching their books.

Also try and only trade with one person at a time... This also works in reverse. If you see some one trying to trade just let them know you are intrested in trading with them as soon as they are done with this person. I get mad when I'm trying to trade wit someone and someone else jumps in to the middle of a trade and trys to get a pin or I'm working on... It is going to be a long event... 4 days is a long time to trade...

Another is to always ask for some advice if your unsure. Not all trades are going to be fair or equal. I have made trades that I have gotten some great pins for what I would consider easy to get pins. I have also made some trades that cost me great pins for what some consider easy or bad pins... ... I know there are going to be "Sharks" there and trust me the bad ones are easy to spot... And not all "Sharks" are bad... I have made most of my best trades with them. Remember it is easy to say "No Thank You" when you feel pressured. Trade for what you want and be prepared to give up some pins... You think we all have the same pins... Wait till you are sitting next ot 500 people with the same pins...

The most important thing to remeber is this is fun... If you come away with nothing but great storys and a few pins... Then you probably had a great time...:)

Anyone else have any CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts on how to make this a safe and fun event:)

And always remember your peachident will be out there with all of you. so if you have any ?'s about the event orr not sure about how a certain pin is trading, dont hesistate to ask for help from a trader who's opinion you can trust. namely me of course, hehe. anyway like NHMICKEY said, most of all have fun with this event and always remembe this is pin trading not war, so if you dont get the pin you want dont get upset, thats why we call this:

PIN TRADING.......................................

Mr. Peachident
mike

also if any of you have any ?'s or concerns about the event, please feel free to email me and i will answer you to the best of my ability. because you all have to remember i have been in on all the meetings and i know how everything is going to work. ttfn and i look forward to seeing all of you at the event.

If you come across a pin you've been looking for, but the trade doesn't feel "right," just say "no, thanks," and move on.

The desired pin will come around again, sooner than you may expect, but for a trade that does feel "right."

Remember, traded pins do not have black-and-white values. (Forget all that stuff about the "going price on eBay.") What one person may want in trade for a particular pin, is not the same as what someone else may want. Find the right trade for you. :)

I have to say DITTO - to all saidhere. I know I amgoing hoping for my HG but not expecting it. I am just looking forward to trading with everyone. I don't care if all trade for are rack pins - I am just looking forward to the experience.

Don't be shy about say "No Thank YOU", and don't be afraid to ask for help even long time traders need advice.

So go in with your eyes wide open - don't search only for that grail - relax and use your DIS friends for advice or to bail you out.

Just want to thank everyone for the advice. If everyone can keep things in their proper perspective this should be one Hades of a good time!!!

Okay, my piece of advice to you is don't wear anything on a lanyard that would upset you terribly if you lost it. The crowds will be tremendous and pins can fall off of lanyards or yes, even be yanked off of lanyards in the hustle. Rubber pin backs help but are not 100% secure. Matthew once lost a 2000 Star Wars signed Boba Fett pin by having it pulled off his lanyard in a crowd.

I know you guys are having fun talking about "shark bait" lanyards .. just wanted to warn you guys to please be careful if you decide to wear these pins!

Some great advice so far... I agree Lauri... I would not put my best pins on my lanyard. I never had one taken off my lanyard (have heard of it though) but I have lost pins on rides... :( Learned not to ride RnR without putting my lanyard in my backpack:)

My lanyard is strictly kids and cast members. My real traders stay in my book. I'm one of those insecure traders, so I know I'll be asking lots of questions!

I hate to put this in print, 'cause his head is gonna get too big to get through the door of the ballroom, but, I have to tell all you other insecure and novice traders out there that Mike (pinhook) is a great person to trade with. I've made several trades with him and he's always been fair. And if I ask and he says no or he askes and I say no, he doesn't make me feel like I'm dirt and should go crawl in a hole! If you've dealt with sharks you know what I mean.

Ummm, just in case he doesn't see this thread..... shhhhhhhhhh don't tell him I said that! LOL:p

My advice is find someway to identify your book. There will be many people there with the same books as you. I have the 2000 large trade book from WDW so I can just imagine how many other people will have that one. To identify mine I am trying to find the time to put a Figment Patch on it so that I will know my book at a glance. I suggest you do the same.

A few possibilities is to get a nametag pin with your name on it and stick it on the outside of your bag. Tie something on the handle like a certain color ribbon. Or even decorate it with stickers of your fav. Disney character. We don't want anyone to lose there bag...

Figgy that is a great point... Everyone seems to have the same type of bag... A name on it is a good idea...

Great idea Figgy!!! Looks Like I have some more painting to do this week.
