Okay, have I got this right?

I'm brand new to this whole "point rent" thing. I'm a relatively bright girl, but it's all so confusing. :teacher: I looked at the Point Charts. Tell me if I've got this right.

I'd like to rent points for 5 nights beginning April 7, 2008. I like the Boardwalk Resort. The best I could tell, the chart read that it takes 11 points per night for a standard that sleeps 4. So, 5 nights at 11 points, I'll need to rent at least 55 points. Do I need to be more flexible in my resort or my dates? How likely am I to find someone with exactly THAT available. How do I tell if an offer $ per point is reasonable? Do I have to get all my points from the same DVC member?

I feel like I should add, "Pleaes type slow, because I'm not understanding this topic fast at all!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The standard (parking lot views) at BWV are the first to be booked, and being inside the 7 month booking window for April where all DVC members can book at any resort, you may need to be flexible on your resort choice. As far as the agreement on price, that is strictly between you and the member you rent the reservation from, it is a private transaction, Disney will not step in in case it "goes sour" for some reason. I will say the $11 to $13 per point price seems to be average. Bu again, it is fully negotiable between you and the DVC owner.

Many DVC members have a no refund policy on rentals, so if you need flexibility, you will need to negotiate that with the member prior to renting, or book with cash through Disney. That is one reason DVC point rentals are more economical than renting for cash through Disney. Also, you probably know, you will not receive daily housekeeping with a DVC point reservation.

Points from multiple members...remember that you are actually renting a reservation, not "points" from the member(s). You can have part of your stay booked through one member, and another portion booked through another member, yes. But you can not rent points from more than one member to compete a particular night of a reservation. In other words, points from different members can not be mixed for any one night, but you can rent 3 nights from one member and 2 nights from another and request that those reservations be linked so you won't have to move, assuming all night are for the same room class at the same resort.

Also, it looks like 5 nights beginning April 7 will mean that you want a Friday night and the points for that are much higher than Sun. - Thurs., so take that into account when you compute the number of points required and the cost. And I would be surprised if a SV studio is still available at BWV, but a preferred view (higher points) may still be doable. Good luck!

Unless you are renting an exisiting reservation, it is unlikely you will find "exactly that" available. When you contract with an owner, they will have to call Member services and check on availability at your desired resort and dates. You might want to have several "choices" for the owner so that you and they do not have to constantly keep calling back multiple times. For example, when we call Member services, we give them our preferred (or yours) dates, and if those dates or villa size, or location are not available, we can change to what DOES have something available. With a renter, they will have to get back to you, and by the time they get back to MS, the next reservation could be gone too. That's why it is best to off several preferences to the owner, so they can check more than one thing at a time. FYI, Standard view rooms at BWV will be very difficult, studios will be more difficult at some resorts, and 2 bedrooms and grand villas will be more difficult at others.
