Okay- don't laugh.. any advice for balding man besides expensive plugs?

Ask him if he has ever considered shaving his head. I think men who shave their heads are very sexy and so do alot of women. If you think that is attractive, talk to him about it. That sure won't hurt his ego :goodvibes Hair is way overrated :rotfl:

I agree. As long as you know there is nothing medically wrong with him he may want to consider this. I think bald is very attractive.

Totally agree bald men are super sexy!:thumbsup2

Well, for sure I'm going to have him read this thread! I think he'll feel better about being bald. You guys are wonderful!

Totally agree!! Bruce Willis anyone?? I talked DH into shaving his head and he looks great!!

My DH was just cutting it close using either a 1 or a straight blade. That was ok, but then something happened. Our dear friend Angel lost all his hair during his chemo treatment. Angel was only 30 years old and he was diagnosed with spinal cancer. My DH decided in solidarity with Angel to shave his head. Angel got worse and eventually passed away, but I will never forget the two of them with their bald heads :)

If you want a nice product that does shave a head smoothly try a Headblade. Riteaid, Walgreens and I think Sally Beauty Supply may have them. They are also found in the African American hair section in my local Walmart. It is a small razor that glides across the head. You buy the actual unit and the blades are separate. My DH loves his headblade.

OK Here is my 2 Cents

I am a 28 year old guy - with all of my hair intact. I have a very thick head of nice hair. So did my dad at my age...... but now.... he's balding - started in the back and worked it's way all around - but he still have a nice part - and my Dad would NEVER be the type to do anything like a comb over, or medication.

So - having the same hair type that my Dad does - I know baldness is in my future. I know I didn't get my Mom's family's hair type because they all start balding around 22-25 years old (my middle brother got that gene)

Anyway - I have decided that when it does happen I'll just take it with a grain of salt - and if I don't like how it looks - I'll just shave my head!

I saw a guy at WDW a few years ago that at some point tried plugs, but he must have lost a good deal of hair in the following years, because not only did he have the scars from plugs in the FRONT - but he also had the lines of scars in the back from where they TAKE the hair from.

If anyone has ever read the childrens book Hiram's Red Shirt - you know that taking a little from here - to put a little there, only works for so long.

Have him try the shaved look - and if he doesn't like that look go for the chrome! HAHA :)

Just my opinion and plan for the day my hair decides not to stick around! LOL

Explain to him what my dad always said. God made some heads perfect, and the others he covered with hair.

:rotfl: OMG I love that! I'm totally telling my DH that, since he's starting to panic about his thinning hair too!

I happen to like/admire bald men. If things don't work to his satisfaction he might still be upset. I did a goole search and came up with...brotherhoodofbaldpeople.com. There are a number of sites who are wanting opinions of bald men. Seriously, does he realize how many guys shave their heads and they aren't all balding!

I'm partial to bald too!! My hubby shaves his head because he started losing his hair and to be honest I think he looks better! HOT... bald with a goatee... he looks tough, but he is a big teddy bear, so it cracks me up. :)

Mine does too. Why fight it? I think it's sexy. No goatee though.

The only thing I can offer is my bald, favorite uncle's quote:

"God only gave so many people perfect heads....the rest he gave hair."

I was always told that the balding gene comes from the mother's side.:confused3

I'd heard this too. But if you think about Prince William and Prince Harry....William is going bald the same way Charles did. Diana had fabulous hair, and so did her brother. Prince Harry has hair like Diana's (so far). So maybe you get some balding genes from both parents?

Shave it. That's the thing to do these days. No fuss, no cost. Since it is the style, I can't even tell when I guy is doing it because he is balding or if it is just because he wants to be in style and shaves his full head of hair.

I agree. My husband shaves every Sunday morning and it lasts all week. Saves us money on hair cuts, too. My husband's dad had the "horseshoe" look and my husband said he never wanted to look like that. Once it got to the point where the front was too thin, he shaved to a 1 on the razor. Then he started a new job and went all the way down. He looks so much better now. Saving is in style and you can always cover it with a hat.

That is true. My mom has a degree in biology and did some studying on this. Yes, a gene that carries a standard balding is carried by the females. Male pattern baldness may not be this gene, however.

Not all shaved heads look good. We have two friends who have shaved their heads and frankly they look like, well... que-balls. Their heads are not good shapes and they never get tan so they have this weird shaped very white head. I think a shaved head requires a face with character and pale with black glasses just doesn't cut it. Sort of serial killer like in my book. I've found some men with shaved heads sexy so I don't have a prejudice against it.

well, first, Diana was still fairly young when she died...so who knows? Second, she coulda been wearing wigs all the time...I don't really think Cher, at the age of 112, still has long luscious locks for real...but she sure wears them.

I'll take pale and skin cancer free than tanned any day. (Which is a real problem for bald men.) :thumbsup2 And I've seen very few men who look bad with their heads shaved - and none that look better with that wispy hair look as they try to deny they're going bald.

Just tell him balding men have more testestorone, which makes him more manly. It's what my balding BIL has told me for 24 years now.

I find it weird how hair patterns run in families:

FIL was just starting to thin when he died in his 70's.
BIL was starting to thin when he was in his late 30's.
DH hasn't started to thin at all and he's in his mid -50's.
My dad hadn't lost any hair at all when he died at 69.
All had normal textured hair.

MIL has an average amount of hair, but it's a bit course. DH inherited her weird cowlick.
I have lots of hair but it's very fine textured.

DD has my hair.

Our son has more hair on his head than any 5 people. It's the thickest head of hair I've ever seen, and is on the coarse side. And it's curly. Where did that come from?? Everyone else is straight.
