Last year was our first time ever to disneyworld, we weren't even going to go to disney just visit relatives but after a killer hotel find we decided to go. I visited the boards and found out the party was going on and everyone promised it would be the best fun ever. After talking about it every day for a week my husband finally relented (it was way cheeper than going in the day and if you think about getting in from 4-12 you get pretty much the same amount of fun time as during the day, since you dont wait in line half of the time like during the day, that was the kicker for my husband

, plus you don't have the sun blaring down on you the whole time) When we went at 4 we had no trouble getting in at all, you even get a free stroller rental as early as 4 for each kid when you show them your wristband. I couldn't believe how crowded the rides were at 4 but around 5 it really started thinning out, by six it was empty, they let you ride the rides everwhere clear up to six then the heard you to fantasyland. During the six to seven hour the rides at fantasyland are still pretty empty, we went on winnie the pooh, snow white and all the others without any lines at all (we were literally the only one there for snow white). By the way it was hot but the sun was starting to set so we didn't get sunburned - it was really quite nice but don't forget the bug spray, we did one night and got pretty attacked. After we did the kiddie rides we headed for the faster rides (all the mountain rides) when the park opened up at 7. We did have a two year old so one adult waited while the other took the 6 and 7 year old on the rides. They weren't doing the swap because there was no need for it. I think we went on space mountain 3 times in a row without having to wait. The worst part was walking (or running rather) from the beginning of the "line" to the end. When I told my boys as we were running that normally people have to wait in line this far back they couldn't believe it. My boys still think the best part however was the trick or treating. I wouldn't let them do it at the start of the party because I didn't want to wait in line, but around 10 there weren't any lines so I let them go as much as they wanted. We had so much candy we ended up having to throw a lot away. The best place for candy by far was the mad hatter tea party, they were just throwing it up in the air by the handful and the kids got to pick it up.

Forgive me if I put a lot of side notes in here, we went back to winnie the pooh probable around 8 for my 2 year old daughter and waited in line for about 45 minutes. The kiddie rides were pretty full from about 7-9 or 10. We skipped the first parade and went to the second, it rained that night and the parade was delayed for an hour, the headless horseman didn't come out as well as a few other of the things in the parade, I am still bummed about that because that was the only night we made parades a priority. (we ended up going three nights even though we had only planned on one because it was so much darn fun) The fireworks were excellent, from posts I read I decided the best spot for fireworks was the bridge from tomorrowland. We were next to a couple that had done the party numerous times and they said that this was definately the best spot. We were next to a professional photographer who also agreed. I got some excellent shots of the fireworks with Cinderella Castle in the background with my digital camera from this spot. We watched Cinderella's surprise celebration once, it was pretty fun for the kids. The Characters were all dressed up and from what I've also heard we got to meet characters that don't come out very often. We got pictures with every character we met. There's free face painting in toontown, the transformed ds6 into a dragon face and ds7 into a skelaton pirate face. We did wait in a pretty long line for the face painting and later I learned there was also a spot in adventureland that didn't have nearly the wait. We only ate the fast food while we were there but if I had to do it again (which I hope to some day) I would definately eat at the character dinner first thing when we got there since the park was still pretty crowded at 4, then if I got hungry later grab a snack, the turkey legs are a good deal and really yummy. We took our family photos right at 7 one night and they turned out great, they arrived in the mail to our home before we did. We didn't dress up, just wore halloween shirts. This worked for us and my kids didn't feel too left out, they were having too much fun to feel left out. After talking to many different people who worked for disney I think most really don't know the ins and outs of the party. There was so much confusion whether you get in early, get a free stroller rental, can make reservations early ect... but once you get there they know what they're doing. So if you're wondering whether to go or not, I would say YES you should go, my brother in law who lives in Orlando and goes regularly says the party is definately the best time he's ever had there - he was completely amazed at how short the lines were and all the other fun activities they have for you. So take the morning easy, take a nap and party all night long - with or without your kids. (My kids would kill me if they didn't go though)
