Ok, when are all these new "lands" actually coming!!

I was reading in one of the D23 coverage articles that they said that Toy Story Land would be open for the 29th anniversary of DHS. Which is 2018, I believe? This makes sense, because they also said that Toy Story 4 is slated for release that summer.

At Disneyland, the agreement made with the city of Anaheim (for no gate admission taxes) stated that they had to begin construction on Star Wars Land by 2017... but who knows how long the construction will take?

I am really, really glad that Disney is really focusing on Hollywood studios, way back when it was called MGM, I was one of the few who loved this park. ;)
Sorry, OP. There aren't just a 'few' who have always loved this park. No one has the monopoly on HS being their favorite. A few opinionated people on a forum do not represent the masses. I can tell you, we have always spent more time at DHS than MK any day of the week. And if you go often (we do), you will see this packed out park absolutely filled to the brim with people that love too.

I agree that the new attractions are a welcome bit of news! But I bristle at your opening comments...?

Darn it.. We are supposed to have a Grand Gathering in 2017 in anticipation of Pandora opening. That is the only reason I could get a few family members to go.
Surely you didn't plan on it?! I mean, 7D took agggeess to open and that was one attraction, not a mini park...

I'm as happy as anybody that there are new attractions coming. But why is it that they can get the DVC additions so quickly but new attractions take so much longer?

I guess hotels are easier to build? Or maybe there is a profit motive to do those more quickly? I don't know.

But now a lot of the hotel expansion makes sense...attendance is going to continue to increase. And I guess average length of stay also!

It's kind of overwhelming when you step back and think about how many entertainment options are going to be available when it is all done.

And kind of disappointing when I realize my kids will likely all be out of college by the time it's done.

I'd just like to see them add net new things in the parks to do at the same rate they are packing more bodies into the parks.

well that's one way of looking at it, with disappointment that hasn't all been done already.

For us, we still haven't even tapped out all there currently is to offer. ;)

Some report I read recently cited how long Disney takes with Rock Work (aka, building fake rocks) as one reason parts will take a long time. Guess there are no fake rocks with rooms. That and they don't try hard to create the magic along with the building, or hide the magic being made, which can really slow them down too.

The inside scoop along with comments from Jim Hill have "most" things being completed by the MK's 50th anniversary. Disney will most likely market this as the "come and see what all has changed since the beginning" sort of thing. The list of things Disney "hopes" to accomplish are the opening of Star Wars Land, an overhaul of TGMR (more than just the current refurb), bringing over the cookie cutter Indiana Jones attraction from CA, another E ticket attraction at the MK, Avatar/Pandora completion, etc. The list gets a little fuzzy after that but that is the idea I believe. Just my intel to add :)

seriously? Pandora was delayed? We were gonna have a big family trip in 2017 in hopes that pandora was ready :( BOO!

Also - it seems like the new Jungle Cruise restaurant will have a nod towards the old Adventure's Club that so many loved so dearly before it closed at DTD?

That would be a very cool move and a fantastic idea.

I don't think it's cynical. Ideas are ideas, only good if they come to fruition. I just think we've been "hearing" about all these wonderful things coming be nice if they actually "came".

Guess work here.......Avatar, 2017....... Toy Story 2018 ...... the biggy, Star Wars 2018 to 2020. With the smaller things like AK night light show, restaurants etc....mixed in starting 2016.

AKK

Considering how long it took to build the parking garage at DTD, I predict that I will not see any of these new lands until my first retirement WDW vacation in 2035.

This is what I told a friend when they asked me, basically Im planning on taking my grand kids to the grand opening.

I am excited about these things, but it wouldn't shock (or surprise) me if Universal is able to get another expansion to Harry Potter World before Pandora, Star Wars or Toy Story is done.
Yup, I bet the new waterpark and all the other things they announced will be up and running before Disney even breaks ground:rotfl:maybe Disney needs to hire universals construction company.

They were hoping you'd be so distracted by the shiny new things that you wouldn't ask for a date. :p

haha yeah this is pretty much Disney hoping that we play with the cool box instead of what was supposed to go inside it! I still am super excited though! I may not be a fan of Avatar, but I trust Disney to do amazing things with the Avatar land!
