We will definitely have passports before our 12/05 trip but for now we are going to use our birth cerificates and picture id.....

.....what are you all keeping these in to keep them safe?

If you mean once you are on board, you will have a safe in your room to keep them in for the remainder of your trip (except that early morning immigration call  )

Otherwise, travelling to and from I keep passports and 3 DSs birth certificates in an envelope in my purse. That way I always know where they are until I put them in the safe in the room.

Have a fabulous trip

To get on and off the boat you don't have to have your birth certificates. You only need KTTW card and photo Id for all adults. The only time you need the BC is when checking in. Get an envelope that fits them all and clips shut. After boarding you can put in it safe as earlier poster said.

Yep, we use a small 6X9 clasp envelope and DW either carries it in her purse or we put it in our carryon pocket.

I just bought one of those 3-ring zipper pencil cases that the kids put in their binders for all our important papers, tickets, etc. I also bought a plastic coated folder with the 3 clips inside and used our 3 hole punch so we could insert our itinerary, airline/car/hotel reservations etc. and attached the pencil case also. I plan on keeping the folder handy (and well attended) in our carry on bag.

I am so paranoid about something happening to my birth certificates... before we get to the port I am definately carrying them in something water proof (ziplock bag maybe) and definately NOT checking them with luggage at the airport.

But I, too, am paranoid about carrying birth certificates. They seem so floppy and fragile. I much prefer to carry sturdy passports. More expensive, yes, but since DH and I already had ours, we only had to fork over the $$ for the kids. The peace of mind was worth it to me. Lillygator, you'll be glad to have them for your cruise.

If your trip includes St. Thomas, you will need your birth certificates early the morning of arrival for immigration. It was pretty painless -- they ask you dumb questions that make you think too early in the morning such as - where were you born? what year were you born? Every member of your party must be present.
