Ok to book Southwest one way?

It's ok just to book SW flights one way and then wait to book the return flight, right? The prices dropped on the BWI to MCO portion but still high on the return - not till Dec so I'm not in a big rush to book.

Or is it better to wait and book it as round trip? Does it not matter?

I've seen advice to book one way all the time because it's easier to change/cancel. I believe you have to call to cancel one leg of a round-trip flight, but if you book each leg as a one-way, you can cancel online.

I am booked for Southwest on 1/1 and am waiting until the next release for 1/8. May not be southwest but you can book one way on Most airlines.

Totally fine. There is no financial incentive on SW for round trips, so no need to book it that way.

I find it better to book them separately so that if the price changes in one direction, I don’t have to rebook the whole trip.

Fly them all the time. I often have two one-way tickets. Just make sure that you have a return trip. If you book with points, it will just deposit back to your account if fare goes down (you have to call). If you pay for it, it will be a credit - 1 year from the date you booked. I often do one way tickets because I have a companion fare and once I add the companion I can't change them, I have to call in.

In this day and age, they can change flights so quickly and if they combine flights, seats will be gone quickly or for a much higher rate than when they started. I only ever book them one-way - I pretty much always book with points and have a companion pass, so it's way easier to re-book if the price drops when it's booked as a one-way vs. a round trip. They don't discount for buying round trip, so it really doesn't matter.

Agree with pp's I almost always book SWA one way and each adult on their own so that we can make changes / adjustments easily.

???? you don’t have to do this. You can change/rebook one leg only.

One benefit of booking both sections together is that if the airline cancels one section, you'll be entitled to a refund of the whole thing.
