we are going on the Fantasy in a few weeks. This cruise is in memory of my Mom who passed away last year. She was a housekeeper at Animal Kingdom Lodge since they opened. She loved DCL and sailed with them 20 times.

We would like to give a gift to all the room stewards (housekeepers) on our deck in memory of my Mom. So, here is the question - how many room stewards do you think there are on deck 6 of the Fantasy?

Just as a guess (based on reports that each room host cleans 10-15 rooms) 15 to 20 hosts. But I don't know if any of them might also do other decks, or if there is some doubling up if one is in training.

Sorry I don't have any input, but I just wanted to say that this is such a nice thing you are doing in memory of your mom and for the stewards.

I'd call DCL and ask. They might find this even more touching than we do.:flower3:

I counted 108 - "110" cabins on deck 6 . At 10 rooms/host = 11 hosts.
....................................... ................ At 15 rooms/host = 8 hosts.

So I'll go with, ... plan for 9 - 11 room hosts on deck 6.

I would consider touching base with management on board with this idea first thing.
Perhaps even email your ideas in advance. They may work with you and have ideas of their own to add.
They may be able to add/tweak/specialize this occasion.

Great idea. And Good Luck.

Hmm...I got more rooms than that. Guess I've got to go count again.

5 11Bs
3 10As
4 9As
7 9Ds
6 8As
2 8Bs
8 8Ds
8 6Bs
3 5Es
86 5Ds
64 4Ds

TOTAL 196
13 to 19 hosts

Dream and Fantasy specs say 1250 cabins.

I count at least 200 short of that, in total.
Weird. Never thought of actually counting the cabins in all these years.
Assumed DCL could count. Lol.

Interesting.

Perhaps I missed a couple decks.

or

Perhaps I need sleep. lol.

There are 6b's too fwiw, aft.
4 7a's too.

I counted the insides cabins too. They said deck 6, IFYKWIM.
All cabins count.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the quick replies. I may take your suggestions and call or email to see what they say, but this sure gives me a ballpark. Now that we have an idea how many, we need to work on what to give them. Our thinking is a small gift bag with various items, etc.

Magazines, chewing gum, candy, pre packaged sweets / pies, cash, calling cards, I tune cards, real food, air fresheners, phone charging cords, usb charging blocks, etc, etc. Are what the crew want.
Do they, CBP and DCL, still allow prepackaged, store bought, pies and whatnot aboard?

IMO, not; specific gift cards to say Walmart, rite aid, etc. They want flexibility.

If you contact management or the vessel in advance; ask them what the crew needs.

Although we all know what the crew wants; time off, real food, and $$.

Can you imagine if DCL worked with OP and crafted time off cards/passes. WOW.
That would be the most exciting thing possible, although the most unlikely unfortunately.

Off topic slightly, but the best thing anyone aboard can do for a crew member is get their name and write a positive comment about said CM. Then submit said comment to guest services, or management.

CM's get bonuses, promotions, time off, extra time off, etc. from these pax directed comments/praises.

Some pax aboard find a way to give CM's real food. You need to be careful with this.
But most find a way.

You could try to contact the hotel manager of the ship about it. Once you are on the ship there are screens in the Atrium that show all the senior officers (one after another, not all at the same time), like Captain, Staff Captain, Cruise Director etc. The Hotel Manager is one of them. I have also found that most nights a lot of the officers are available in the atrium, not only on Captain's Reception night. You might find the Hotel Manager there, otherwise ask at guest services. There are also different hotel managers for specific decks. We met the one for deck 2 on the Wonder when our cabin had some serious issues and he came himself to talk to us. So, if you don't want to bother the head Hotel Manager, ask to speak to the one for deck 6. He or she might be helpful to ensure that you can get your gift bags to all of the stateroom attendants.

I think it is a lovely idea and a wonderful tribut to your mother! I have often stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge and always found the housekeeping there especially excellent!

Very nice gesture in memory of your mom.....can I ask why just Deck 6? Is that where she always stayed onboard or is this where you are staying for your cruise?

Nevermind, I just re-read your original post. That said, maybe a tribute to all the housekeeping staff shipwide in memory of your mom (not just Deck 6 or individually) with one or more big baskets/bags of goodies that they could all share in their break room or something.

I also agree about talking to DCL first.

I'm sure the house keeping staff gets enough goodies from all their guests that give it to them.we are turning them into diabetics.

We actually almost always stay on deck 2 but happen to be on deck 6 this time.

I love everyone's ideas and I'm still thinking what we want to do exactly. But thank you for all your help. We are just trying to find a way on this special cruise to honor my Mom and her love for DCL
