Just wondering who would prefer to fly directly in to the Walt Disney World Resort. I'm pretty sure that Disney has enough land. How great would it be to have the magic start as soon as you land? Imagine getting off the airplane and being greated by Mickey :mickeyjum and listening to "If you wish apon a star" while checking in? or do you think it would be a logistical nightmare for Disney? It's fun to imagine! :smickey:

No thanks. An airport at WDW, even if they had room and could fill-in the wetlands, would result in no more room for expansion of the parks and a lot of noise from planes landing and taking off.

No, Disney doesn't have nearly enough land to build an airport.

Look at this Google map:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=28.386568,-81.455383&spn=0.388424,0.582275&om=1

In it you'll see MCO, on the right side. MCO property is highlighted in gray.

Compare that to WDW property, on the left side of the map, which is in a slightly darker beige than the surrounding areas.

MCO is nearly half the size of WDW. And WDW is about 20%-30% developed already, leaving no room for a major airport.

Now, a smaller landing strip would be possible, but that would be useless. WDW needs to be serviced by a major international airport - which was one of the major reasons why Walt and Roy picked their Orlando site as they did. It was a quick 30-minute drive from McCoy field, an upand coming airport in those days that eventually transformed into Orlando International Airport (the MCO comes from McCoy field).

It's fine the way it is. Trying to limit yourself entirely to WDW when you go to Orlando is dumb; you miss out on an entire city full of other theme parks, hotels, resorts, golf courses, restaurants, water parks, shopping, dinner shows, and other entertainment.

Who said that just because you landed in Disney World that you could not venture out of the resort area? I certainly do not limit my self to just Disney as I enjoy the many fine beaches in Florida as well as other areas. I do not just stay in Orlando because I landed in Orlando. Just like in any other airport you could rent a car and go where ever you would like to go. If Disney does not have the capability of having a major airport then thats fine but who said anything about being limited in where you stay or go? And judging by the pole numbers, some people might enjoy the convenience in landing in WDW.

I agree 100%! :thumbsup2

Yep, it would be fun. However, not so practical. Disney would have to have it's own airline....I just can't see the already in debt airlines having designated planes to just WED Airport! And then, can you imagine how much prices would go up!!? I guess we'll have to be happy with DME providing the magic at the beginning of our stays. Can you imagine the outcry from the towncar services or even MCO itself if you took away all the WDW traffic?

I voted yes to this poll because I think it would be a fun idea! Fun idea YES, good idea NO! There are so many reasons this airport would never fly, one of the being the COST! I would have to say cost is going to be a main factor, because who would be willing to leave an airport that's doing a good job for them now to build a new airport with limited use? Who would foot the bill for all the studies of environmental impacts, landing patterns, and economic impact on the rest of Orlando? If Disney does decide to actually foot the bill for the majority of the project, they will find that airlines might not actually want to fly there, only because instead of dealing with a government stealing their profits (through landing and gate fees along with those fees they have to charge passengers making it hard for them to raise fares) they'll have to deal with Disney wanting a portion of every flight (even though they're already charging and arm and leg to get into a park for one day) That's just my opinion, although like I said earlier. I'd fly into WED as someone put it, but I'm not going to put off my next trip till it's built :rotfl2:

I wouldn't want to hear the noise associated with an airport on my vacation. But I wouldn't object to renaming MCO.

The airport nearest to Disneyland has three names, Orange County, John Wayne, and Santa Ana.

I wouldnt mind at all. Be pretty cool. Course I work for an airline and I love planes.

Just a side note, for those that mess around with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, there is a Walt Disney World Airpark available for download.

The area it resides in is about 1 mile west of the Grand Floridian where the Palm/Magnolia Golf Courses are. The runway is 7500 feet long and the terminal buildings are in the shape of a Mickey Head. There is also Disney Airlines flying to and from other airports in the USA. 737's and DC9's with characters on the tail. Whoever did it did a great job!

I helped create fireworks right behind Cindy's Castle for Wishes, Fireworks over World Showcase Lagoon for Illuminations and then more out at Sleeping Beauty's Castle at Disneyland CA.

Ill post pictures later.

In "fantasy" maybe a cool idea, but in reality - not soo good. I am 20 minutes from MCO and sometimes of the day they noise from the plans is quite loud. It surely would ruin the magic!!!!

I can already hear the unhappy Disney visitors when the flight is delayed or their luggags is lost:

"Just what kind of Mickey Mouse Airline are you running here??"
