ok. so don't laugh at me.. or roll your eyes for that matter..

Ok, not sure if this has been asked, but is there are reason you "really don't want to stay at ASMU?" I've never stayed at a Value, so I don't know what the difference is other than the themeing.

All Star Music is my favorite Disney owned hotel.
All of the rooms were just refubished between last June 2006 and this June 2007.

Here are a few photos of the new rooms.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

Maybe there's more to the story than just the resort that is causing the OP to think twice about the trip. If one person wants one thing out of a trip, and the other wants something different, it can sometimes make the trip unpleasant. If that's the case, then I would cancel until a compromise could be worked out.

The resort is a big part of my Disney vacation experience. I have stayed at all levels (value, mod, deluxe, DVC) and had great trips, but I usually have a specific type of vacation experience in mind when I book. So I can understand the disapointment of not getting the resort you want. But if the resort is the only thing keeping you from making the trip, I would reconsider cancellation. Have you stayed at Pop or are you just going by what is said here? Pop has a lot of fans, but ASMU is a fun resort, and you have the ability to use the pools at the other All Star resorts as well, a perk you don't have at Pop. The rooms are the same size and both resorts are well themed. It could be worse - you could be staying off property!

By all means, it doesn't hurt to ask when you check in if there is something available at Pop. You might have a slightly better chance if you check in, and then return to the desk and tell them you don't like the resort, and ask if you can be moved. Personally, I believe Pop is going to be booked pretty solid, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by all the ASMU has to offer.

i would NOTcancel my trip just becauseof hotel either. we actuallyhave stayed at the music quite a few times. we have had alotof fun .last summer we stayed in the suite. very nice. but for the most we are in the parks most of the time. unless there is a serious problem , please try the music you will have fun.....i would rather be in any disney hotel than home ............

ok.

wow. my threads never get any attention. normally i get 3 replies at the most. :thumbsup2

tomorrow i will post and let you all know my final decision.

POR is my favorite disney resort. I had my DBF sold on it last year. I love the theming. I love the ferry. Watching the carriages go by. listening to the music

With that said. Yes, I have been to ASMu and also ASMo before. Senior Class trip and NUMEROUS disney vacations with parents. They aren't BAD resorts. They are just not for me.

When I booked my trip with the TA ( why oh why did i do a TA again this time? that was probably the worst decision I ever made. especially because I'm not getting the AAA discount with my trip ) i told her i wanted POR. I tried to um, change the price a bit when i told DBF because it was more expensive than last years WDW trip. and on top of that, i didn't book airfare. and last year i did with the AAA TA. So, i had the TA give me the AAA discount price ( without dining...) and the Free dining promo price. and i told DBF the AAA discount price with the mindset that because i fulltime serve in addition to my primary full time office job ( i work in lending @ a popular bank...) i would just make the extra money in two shifts.. or one night.. But then we had to go to the TA to sign some extra paper work.. and TA was going over the price.. and yeah. cat out of the bag. :rolleyes1 so in order to save my WDW trip DBF made it clear: we had to upgrade in the other direction...he knew how upset i was that POR had to go. I was so sad. but I told her, ok. try to book POP. of all the values, that would be my first choice.unfortunately, it was booked solid for that package. the only one left was ASMu. to me, ASMu doesn't have that same charm and appeal as POR does. POR takes you away to another place when you are there. Like you are really down south. on the bayou. you can stand outside by the river and watch the ferry. look at the mansions. love it! ASMu to me just feels like a hotel that you are staying at on WDW property. Does that make sense? If not, I can try to clarify it better.

In my jam packed day tomorrow somewhere I am going to try to squeeze in a visit to the TA. see what i can do. if POR is availible I might just try to go back. DBF knows that disney is MY thing. so he'll just have to suck it up. to DBF its just a trip to orlando and going to WDW. so me, its DISNEY! its WDW! its everything! so magical. he calls me obsessed. he knows he should stand out of the way when it comes to anything disney related. he just wants to save money. save save save. jeez. if there was a coupon to save money on something at the dollar store he'd use it. normally im allowed to do my disney thing... I plan the um, heck out of my disney trip. This one planned but not so much as normal. I mean, i have ADRs and I know what part what day i am going to.. but other than that.. oh and DBF's secret surprise birthday present: BSM tour!!! somehow i got shut down this time.

also, i am expecting something shiny (hint hint..)...
he hinted...
cowboy boots and jukeboxes and electric guitars and turbo toilets just wouldn't do. oh no no no :rolleyes1
and if it doesn't happen... there's always christmas ( which would make it a gift, which means if something did TERRIBLY happen.. ok ok i'll stop.. don't flame me for that, it was a joke...)
but that is the most minor of all the reasons on why i'm sad about ASMu.
and if you think that is the reason why he can't really afford a mod, i'll pay for the difference if it means getting my POR back!

but seriously, if the TA can't switch me... i don't know if i can stay at ASMu. it wouldn't be the same for me. the feel would be totally different. POR is part of my disney magic. each person has their own. this is mine.

ps. sept 12-19th are my dates. thats wednesday to wednesday

Little OT: Wow! I'm really impressed. We've been long time Deluxe guests and haven't stayed at All Star Music since we graduated college over 10 years ago. Those rooms are nothing like the tacky rooms I remember from the '90's! Very, very nice! Great job on the room rehabs, Disney!!

Personally, I would stay at any of the WDW resorts if the alternative was not going at all. Heck, I would even stay off site. Lol To me, not going would be way more tragic than staying at ASMu. That doesn't mean I wouldn't try to change to what I would prefer more, but I wouldn't scrap a trip - especially a trip where I might get something sparkly! - over the resort. But, that is me.

Just a word of advice from someone who has been married (almost!) 10 years - take it or leave it - there are going to be a lot of things you will have to compromise on in your marriage - this is really a pretty small thing in the big picture. I know it might seem like BF is being cheap, but maybe he has a reason for this. Even though BF isn't into Disney, it is still his trip too. Just my two cents.

I have to say this. If in fact you might get something shiny on your trip then maybe he wouldn't do the asking around cowboy boots and juke boxes. Maybe knowing Disney is your thing he wants to ask you there but I would think he could find someplace other than your resort. Maybe that's why he doesn't want to spend the extra money this time. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the value resorts and have stayed a couple of times. I wouldn't cancel your whole trip because of the resort. Maybe save the money on your resort now and go for your honeymoon to the resort of your choice. Also have you thought about POFQ? Do they have any availabilty? You could always walk over to Riverside and do the things you love so much about the resort. If you do get something shiny- just think you have the rest of your life to compromise and you may as well start now!! Good luck in your decision and hopefully congrats are in order!!

I just tried to check your dates to see the difference between free DDP and the other promos currently running and the resort you want is not available (none of the mods were for that matter). So, it kind of looks like you are going to have to stick with the original reservation unless you are willing to drop any discounts...which wouldn't be a very good idea.

It sounds like you are trying to create a really special trip to set the stage for a proposal. I think you should just go and leave things up to your DBF (ie: have a little faith in him!). Also, from what you've put in your posts it's sounds like you're a "moderate" kind of girl trying to makes things work with a "value" kind of guy (I'm not referring in anyway to income levels, but mindset). If that's the case, this vacation won't be the only thing you'll need to compromise on, but it might be a good start!

Sorry...didn't mean to lecture!

Port Orleans Riverside is our favorite resort as well. However, I would stay at All Star Music in a heartbeat. We stayed there a few years back (prior to the refurb) and really liked it. It has a nicely themed pool and seemed quieter than some of the other values that we have stayed at. Further, there seemed to be a large percentage of couples without children. I don't know why, just an observation.

My two cents: Don't give it another thought, go on your vacation and enjoy!

ok. maybe i should re-explain something that i said. because i kinda feel like now i am coming off in a different way then i expected.

the whole reason that i wanted to stay at POR is not because of anything shiny. I had POR first then i switched to ASMu. its not that i think ASMu is a bad place to stay. and its not that its a bad resort. because its not. i swear i think this eventhough it may sound like i don't. it just isn't my preference. but hey, im weird. i eat my eggs scrambled with brown mustard on the side.

Im not really trying to set any kind of mood for anything. it basically comes down to this. i like POR and its where i want to stay. and you are right. i am more of a moderate kind of girl. and yes, he is going. but this is MY trip. the beach house with friends and jack, jose and jim was his trip. and trust me. there was a LOT of compromising when it came to that trip. ooooh boy... a lot. personally, i don't know if he even wanted to go to disney. i think i kinda forced him into this trip. most likely though, it was just the timing of when free dining got introduced and when i wanted to book. i think at that point ( and it was like 3 months ago...) maybe four? he didn't have a lot of money because we were still downpaying for the beach house trip and he had just bought this navigation system that was kinda expensive and he bought something else too. i forget. did i mention that DBF is very into electronics? i can't keep track of them all. i told him that he didn't really have time to think about whether he wanted to go or not. i hadn't thought about even going to disney this year and then i just stopped by the DIS to see how out of the loop i was, and BAM! i saw all the threads about possible free dining. it was a rush. actually,i think i may have even told him, we are going to disney. and gave him my look ( my lip just pops out.. and i get my sad eyes ) and then i booked. so total time of everything was about a week. maybe less. then after i booked, a few days later is when he started really inquiring about the price since i had kinda fudged it a bit when i told him before booking. thats when all this POR/ASMu stuff started.

i probably shouldn't have even mentioned the part about shininess... i mean, its sorta a reason but its not THE reason. its not even as big a deal as i think i made it. like i said before, i am more of a moderate type of girl. its just how i am. i mean, if it was up to me and i could afford it, i'd be staying at AKL. heck, i'd belong to DVC or something. but i can't. so ( for now..) those aren't even options. the next best thing of which i've learned to love is my POR. just like Buzz has his coronado springs and people have their POP i have my POR.

but anyways. maybe i will just pitch a tent in one of the courtyards around oak manor.

my TA said she was going to do some calling around and see what i can do. i don't know if its much, but hey its still worth a shot. maybe a gigundo hurricane will threaten orlando and people will cancel. ok. so i wouldn't want that either. maybe, i don't know. something happens and everyone cancels. and yay! i get my spot.

OK. I changed my mind.
After reading the above reply I see now that you would be truly unhappy if you went to Disney and stayed at All Star Music.
It seems that nothing short of POR will make you happy. The problem as I see it is you fudged when you told your DBF the price of the Disney trip. It sounds like DBF does not feel he has that amount of money to spend on a POR Disney trip. (for this fall at least )

I think you need to reconsider your options.

1. Cancel the trip for this fall .
2. Book POR without your DBF's approval and/or knowledge and run the risk of losing him.
3. (the one I highly recommend) Sit down with DBF and calmly explain to him why staying at POR and not staying at ASMu is so important to you. Explain why you would be absolutely miserable at ASMu and that a trip to Disney without staying at POR is worse than no trip to Disney for you.

It sounds like the two of you are having a hard time agreeing on how money should be spent and maybe you both need to start working on budget and learning to understand what is important to each of you and why.

Good Luck :wizard:
