me and my DBF are going to WDW during the free dining. we had a reservation at POR. i love POR! but just like the name reads... we really don't have the money. lol. actually, i would be willing to put in the extra 200 but he doesn't want to and yeah, thats another story. so we had to switch to the value. the only one being left was ASMu. I tried to get POP but that didn't work out to my advantage. there were rooms left in POP just not ones blocked off for free dining. so... what do you think my chances are at check in if i ask if can ask if there is anyway to upgrade. there has to be ONE room left somewhere at some resort... i mean, i'm glad i got free dining and all that stuff. but ME PERSONALLY i really don't want to stay at ASMu. should i add the word free or complimentary to it to make it sound better? do i have to add upgrade and keep free dining because i would need a room that has been blocked off. if they upgraded me would they take away the free dining if i went into an not blocked off room?

ok. so i just read a thread below mine. this is probably why all 51 of you read this and didn't respond. :)

i am actually thinking now of just cancelling my disney trip. i really don't want to stay at ASMu that bad. i know. it sounds dumb. but if i am not going to be happy with everything that encompasses my trip then i would rather forgo it. hey! you should be happy. that just means that prime ADRs at Spoodles, Jiko, and Ohana might just open up in the not too distant future.

I would cancel, part of the Disney experience to us is the resort. It is not just a place to shower and sleep. We prefer the ambience of a deluxe and am willing to pay for that ammenity. If we couldn't swing the cost, we would scrimp and save till we could, we never go second hand resorts, its our first choice unless all is booked. $200.00 ain't that much to save to go to a mod, I'ld shoot for it but we never do the dining. Dining is not part of our experience, we do CS and a few TS but thats it. We prefer to dine when we're hungry not when a reservation says we have to eat. Do not like hard schedules, once on property our plans are just about out the window, and we've been there 38 times, to many new things to see and do kinda knocks us off our plan.

Everyone has an opinion...here is mine...

If you really want to go and stay at POP...try this....

Call CRO...find out what it would cost to "change" your package...there are new codes out there,,ask them about them...you may save money or come out the same.....add dining to your package...it may not be "free"....but may still be cost effective with the code for the room discount.
With this code, there may be rooms available at POP under this promotion.

I did this....cancelled my free dining res...used the code, and got a more substantial savings...mind you, that there is just 2 of you on your reservation. THis discount works better for singles/couples.

Hope this helps...it may be a way to get your room at POP.

I've stayed at ASMu a few times and like it. The pool area is very pretty and there are lots of other pretty areas. The resort rooms have been rehabbed recently and they are nice. I would keep the free dining at ASMu unless this was a one time only trip to WDW. You can always stay someplace else next time. :)

The way we tour WDW, we figured the free dining wasn't for us. Too crowded, too much time spent at table service restaurants. We are strictly "grab and go" eaters.

Hi There:

How much time are you going to spend at the parks versus the resort?

Usually the resorts are just a small portion of our trips.

You can call Disney daily to see if anything does open up at POP to.

Regardless, I think you would enjoy your trip to WDW.

Good Luck,

Mark

Mulan82, of course it's your choice whether to cancel or not, but if I were in your shoes I would go. I wouldn't let not having my first choice of resort stop me. All of the Disney resorts have great theming, even the values IMO. I've stayed at ASMu and it has a fun atmosphere and the CMs were all great. My only complaint about it was our room location and the long walk to the bus stop (which only became an issue when carrying two tuckered-out little ones plus four bags of candy after MNNSHP at 1:00 AM, lol). Again, it's your choice, but I do hope you'll reconsider and go!

What's a "second hand resort"? Y'all kill me:rolleyes:

Um, well, I dunno... a 'used' one? I mean, Shades of Green is second-hand. It used to be Disney's, now it belongs to the military. And the Holiday Inn on Hotel Plaza Boulevard (is it even open yet?) is third-hand, at least. It was a Courtyard, and before that it was a Howard Johnson's...

This must be what that poster meant :teeth:

No, you should absolutely NOT do that. All that would do is make it sound like you're trying to get something for nothing, and it's not likely to help.
If you do keep your reservation as is (vs. taking some of the other suggestions in this thread regarding codes), you can certainly ask at check-in if it's possible to upgrade to ____ Resort, or less specifically to any Moderate resort - but you need to be prepared to pay the difference. If there is availability, you will likely have to pay for the upgrade.

have you seem the new rehab rooms - they are wonderful!!!!

I would stay at Mu.

what did I get Sports - who will be going thru a rehab when I am there - wonderful - it gets the worst reviews - so probably a dirty room and listening to construction.

see it could be worst.

can't find any on the dis - here is the new rehab

I would love music!!!:cloud9: less kids screaming as well!:rolleyes1

Wow...don't cancel your trip.

I much prefer Music to PopC. I know it's not what you wanted, but it's a lovely resort and has all newly refurbished rooms.

The atmosphere is a bit quieter than at PopC and the bus service and food court are quiet good.

I can understand your sadness about getting a resort that you are not wanting to stay at!! We were first booked for POP (free dining), then wanted to add a night!! The only thing available was sports and to me it just seems kinda run down. So I switched and was sad about it! But I kept trying and before free dining ending, pop became available, so I switched back!!

But I have to say.......I would have to be in the farthest away room in the most run down value for me to cancel my trip!!

And we stayed at ASMusic on our Disneymoon in 2004 and loved it. It was not crowded at all and everything was so clean and nice. And to top it off, they have refurbished the rooms since then, so now I want to go back!!!

And what is this about "second-hand resorts"??? I guess I'm just "second-hand person" but I'm going to Disney so I don't care!! :thumbsup2 I can take 3 trips on what someone will spend for 1 trip in a deluxe! :cheer2:

When you call to check if the Pop is available for the Free dining package make sure you are asking them to connect you with guest services or have them check with guest services. Front Line CM's can not see room availability for a package that the booking date has passed. And keep trying. People do cancel and things open up all the time.

Now having said that, have you ever stayed at the Music? Have you stayed there since the room rehab? I say give it a shot. I stayed there last June and was perfectly pleased. The new rooms are really nice. The grounds are very nice. I can not compare it to the Pop because I have not stayed there yet but if the Music vs no Disney trip was my choice I'd jump on the Music! And what about the Sports? Was that available? Would a Sports theme appeal to you more? I stayed at the Sports in June and going back there in August.

You have to be happy with your choices. But maybe if you give the Music a try you might be surprised.

You didn't say what your dates were, but you could try calling at 45 days from your arrival dates. There may be cancellations at POP for free dining and you may be able to switch.

On my first trip to disney I thought staying at the values would be dreadful. But I went to POP last year with my 2 sons and it was fine. This year I am trying AS MU. There aren't a lot of reviews or pictures of ASMU on here, but I suspect it may be one of those resorts that is underrated. The new refurbished rooms look great and the landscaping looks very nice.

It would be a shame to let a resort ruin your trip, since there is so much more to a Disney trip than the resort. It sounds like you have great ADR's. I encourage you to give it a try. If you absolutely hate it when you get there, you could request a resort change.

Have fun, whatever you decide.

I would definitely not cancel my WDW trip because I was staying at ASMU. The resort is very nice and has newly refurbished rooms. I have have stayed at POR too and I think it is great, but there is no way I would cancel. There may be cancellations coming soon as the window is here for people to start paying off their packages. Maybe you can still get POP.

:lmao: :rotfl2:  :confused3

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Anyway, the idea of cancelling the entire trip just because you can't get the resort you want seems a little extreme to me.

One of the best things about a WDW trip is trying new things that you've never tried before, like new restaurants, or new resorts.

I have stayed at ASMU, ASSP, and POP multiple times each, and I found them all to be terrifi resorts. In fact, ASMU is my favorite of the Values, because it's the quietest and most peaceful.

I say, open your mind to new and wonderful possibilities. Try ASMU - you might not love it as much as I do, but I doubt that even an unpleasant resort stay could possibly "ruin" a trip to WDW.

What's a "second hand resort"? Y'all kill me:rolleyes:

Second pick on your resort list, you know first choice, then second choice resort..................Too many people reading between the lines...............Come on.

We like WL but if its booked, thats first choice, second hand resort for us would be CR................

If I could not at least stay at a mod. resort I would not go to WDW at all. The thought that you already are disappointed in where you are going to stay, tells me alot that you won't have a very enjoyable time. So I would upgrade or wait until I could afford the trip I really wanted.:thumbsup2
