Can you tell me

1) dial up or DSL or Cable?
2) do you like it
3) and heres the personal part... would you mind telling me what you pay for it?

Thank you so much!

I am on the phone with the cable co.. like I said Im sick of Sattelite and they will bundle (2 rooms) TV and internet with a Dish buy Back for $68.95/Month

do you think thats a good deal?

Is Cable internet a good service? ( as opposed to dial up Im sure its heavenly!)

Cable modem. We like the convenience of accessing the internet at any time, without tying up the phone. We rarely have had outages in the year-2 years we've been connected. Our rates are currently around $43/month just for internet service. It equates to about the same as paying for a second phone line with an unlimited dial-up connection.

Our rate just went up a little bit, we pay $104 a month; that includes the mandatory basic cable. Once you get used to cable modem, there is no going back.

We have cable internet - with both the internet service and regular cable - we pay around $76.00/month.

binny,
DO you have direcway????/
That is my only option besides dial up. When it works, it is pretty good (fairly high speed etc) but it doesn't work well alot of the time! I would definately go some other way if I could!
I pay 59.99 a month for the experience :(

We have DSL through our local phone company Centurytel. We pay $108.

That includes 2 phone lines, voice service, & includes our phone service.

We have cable.

We love the speed, reliability, and convenience. We don't like the Comcast-formerly ATTBroadband-formerly-Mediaone monopoly. ...just on principle. ;)

Several years ago, when we decided to "get online" both DH and I had elderly parents in varying stages of poor health and other personal crises. Also a young teenage DD. ;) So we decided we'd need another phone line if we wanted to do dial up. When we looked at the upfront cost of phone line installation, monthly charge for the second phone line and the internet service, factored in teh speed and convenience issues....the choice to go with cable was a no-brainer for us and we haven't regretted it.
Our Comcast bill is about $100 per month. Half is for the internet, half is for 2 TV's.

So yours sounds like a good deal to me! :)

We have DSL. I think all totaled our bill is about $100 a month. We use to have cable. It was great for the first few years. But, as more and more people signed up for the service. It got slower and slower and was down quite a bit.

We bundle everything through Bellsouth Answers.

We have Complete Choice (call-waiting, caller ID, star 69, etc) with our local service, unlimited long distance, DSL internet access, and two cell phones (Cingular is owned by Bellsouth) that share 500 nationwide minutes per month, but are free to each other for $198 per month. Since we bundled, we get a discount off each service, so basically, we're getting the unlimited long distance for nothing.

we have Verizon dsl......and our phone is always open for use ..and we had four computers on it at one time.....now we are down to two and a half......he is building another one......we pay 39.95 a month for internet.......

we will be going with Cable One its our only alternative.

So I guess its a pretty good deal.

We have Charter cable tv and modem internet service

The total is $85........

The internet portion is $35 per month.... which includes modem rental of $5 (same as DSL and/or Dialup in our area)

TV with Showtime and extended basic service is $50....
now THAT upsets me!!! I think that it is way to much to pay for TV.....

I have had the Cable internet service for 1 year. We like it better than dial up......but have found that since you are always hooked up or ON with internet you face the fact that you get more popups and viruses...
so we have learned to turn the modem OFF when not sitting at the computer. I asked several of the internet providers if this was true of all cable systems.. they said YES. So we also have installed virus and popup software.
Hope you enjoy your new service!

We have Charter cable internet. We are hold-outs and refuse to get cable TV so we waited until Charter dropped their extra fee if you do not also have their cable. When we signed up, they connected us for free, we just had to buy the cable modem (about $65) and now we pay about $30 per month.

It is SOOO much better than dial-up and since we only have one phone line, it is SOOO nice to be able to talk and surf at the same time.

We have SBC DSL for $ 26.95 per month.

sorry to get off-topic on your thread binny...but this caught my eye. Very interesting. I have Norton antivirus and haven't had a pop-up problem, at least lately... but Mamjoan, do you mean that in addition to turning the computer off, you unplug/turn off the modem itself? Then just turn it back on/plug it back in before turning the computer on? Or do you leave your computer on and jsut disconnect the modem?

 What in the world is dial up?

We have AT&T DSL and love it. We pay $39.99 per month & the bill is added to our phone bill so it's about $90 a month for both our phone and DSL service.

Charter told me:

Disconnect the modem to avoid continuous "on" time, so I do that.. it worked somewhat.........
Our little modem sits right on the desk next to computer so it is easy to do.
We have Norton, spybot and adware..... but lordy! I still get some nasty PORN junk that somehow got into our system and is a bugger to get rid of now....
